This is the best place I’ve ever been. Why? Its a homebrew shop... so they are willing to talk about the beer with a beer geek.
As for the Beers... AMAZING AMAZING. So unique. They will tell you about what they are using, and give you ideas to take home. Tasting price is cheaper than their other location.
The service was exceptional. I’m a beer geek, there were other beer geeks there, and they seemed to know us beer geeks can talk about the beer we are sipping and talk with us.
I LOVE THIS PLACE. AND LOVE THERE BEER. To bad i’m 1000 miles away.
Being reviewed post-remodel. I’ve been a customer here for years. This is where I cut my teeth on homebrewing and the guys were excellent when I was a noob.
Warning, they do get slammed so if you are a noob, try stopping in on a mon/tues when it’s slow and they can give you a lot of 1-on-1 help. If you go in on a Fri/Sat you maybe SOL as they just don’t have the staff for both brewing/bartending/homebrewing.
Excellent selction of their beers on tap, most of which do not see the bottling line. Lots of oaked/aged/barreled beers, but they only have a tasting license. If you want full pints, visit the Oak Grove location.
Next door is a yogurt shop and on occassion they will have a beer yogurt, sounds gross but it’s very tasty.
brewing supplies are reasonable for beling local, brewing hardware is on the expensive side.
A bit tough for me to find at first because I only knew the street at a general area to find them, but the store was easy enough to find. Homebrew mart right next to Ballast Point. You can only go through 1 door though, or maybe I got there too late. Anyways, nice selection of homebrew stuff. Awesome bulk-type selection of most malts where you can just scoop what you want. Lots of yeast and hops, equipment, spices, extracts. Lovely! I wish I had a homebrew shop like this here. The best part is that at the back of the shop there’s a mini-bar where you can get tasters of all of the ballast point standard beers, some of their seasonals, plus some of their homebrew recipes that you can snag the recipe (and ingredients) for. Very nice folk, talkative and interested in what you have you say. I’d come back.
Been to the Scripps Ranch location quite a few times...Great nautical/fish paintings, very friendly and helpful service. Lots of unique beer selections available in addition to their regulars. Beer tours are fun and informative. I wish they had a restaurant instead or in addition to the food trucks.
Went to this location for the first time on St. Patti’s Day. Great spot, mellow vibe. 95% of the place is devoted to home brewing but in the back they have a small tasting bar that packs a big punch. Several different seasonals on tap including their Fathom IPL and BA Come About Stout. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the prices were affordable, $1 or $1.50 per taster. Tasters only at this location, they serve pints at the Carroll Canyon location, which is another great spot by the way.
Great brewery with an amazingly helpful staff. Every time I go in I’m surprised with their robust selection of seasonals. If you can’t find a beer you like from these guys there is something wrong with you! Try the Sculpin IPA when its in, AMAZING!
