Big place with lots of glass cabinets hocking their stuff. Lots of tap only beers available and a good priced sampler. Visited here the morning after my drunken San Francisco experience, hungover but the sampler helped me wake up. Nice folks and nice place. Smelled like brew day.
After at least a half dozen trips to Santa Rosa and Russian River, I finally just made it a point to come here. Surprisingly small brewpub for a brewery that has their beer all over the place in bottles. I guess they do have an outside area that not many seemed to be using. They had about 18 taps on with the regulars and a pretty good number of draft only/brewpub only beers. Service was chipper and quick. They do samples of everything and theyíre pretty cheap, too. Everyone seemed to just be hanging out and having a good time in the rather quiet town of Healdsburg.
Perhaps the most memorable thing about this place was the menís room. Itís about the size of your typical single occupancy restroom, but the arrangement of the facilities is interesting to say the least. They have a few urinals on one of the walls (no dividers, but not really a big deal) and opposite that are the sink...and a toilet. I mention this because the toilet is just there. Itís not in a stall nor does it have any sort of barrier. I guess itís cool if you like have an unobstructed view of people taking a leak and washing their hands while you drop a deuce, though. Shitter rating: 2/5.
Great lively place with tons of locals and friendly bartenders to keep you entertained. The staff not only know there stuff, attempt to humor and get to know you. I had a great time and they had 15+ beers on tap. Food was OK, nothing special and during happy hours the prices are down right cheap.
Visited for lunch with some beer xnobes, Thursday 04/02/16.
Old skool kind of brewpub - Iíd expected something more modern to be honest ... all brown and wood colours with an outside patio. Just one shitter for everyone to share - not good enough in this day and age! The place was fair busy for lunch with a mixed local crowd, service was prompt and bubbly although they forgot one part of my food order! Food was decent enough but nothing to get overly excited about. Best part of 20 beers on tap and tasting flights offered ... kind of split into 2 camps, the regular stuff and the one off sour/strong stuff. As some of the others have said, there were definitely some off notes in some of the beers - line cleaner kind of thang going down. Luckily I had already rated these beers so no big impact personally but obviously a poor show on home territory and should deservedly attract low rating scores. Overall Iíd certainly hit up Bear Republic again but the off beers, the dated decor, just the one toilet and the mistake with my food order all kind of chipped away at the score for me and overall it fell below my expectations.
Came here for lunch in a fairly large group (about eight or so). The selection of beers is great, with tons of stuff available beyond the core range. One major gripe during my visit, however, was that several of the beers we had tasted like detergent or line cleaner. I even went up to the bar to get another pour of one, and right out of the tap it tasted wretched. So, that was quite disappointing. I had a burger and thought it was great. The service was attentive and enthusiastic - to say the least. The place itself is fairly large, with loads of seating, and a relatively laid-back ambiance. Overall, it was a good visit, but the poor condition of some of the beers definitely tainted the experience.
Great place in a beautiful part of Healdsburg. Awesome little beer garden out back. Staff are friendly and helpful, and prices are reasonable. Beer quality is pretty consistent, especially the IPAs and barrel aged brews. A must stop when traveling down the 101.
Bellied up to the bar and asked for a six beer custom taster - I think it was like $9, which seemed pretty reasonable, and they were well poured. Kind of a fun place with a brewpub like feel, energetic staff, and a lot of locals (people, not beer). Did not try the food, but the beer had a couple of real standouts.
April 2008 - Early afternoon, mostly a bar crowd, enjoying the awesome BRBC beers, just as we did. It goes without saying, but the beers here are world class. They alone are worth the visit. Unfortunately, we didnít try any of their food. We had a good time talking with Ryan the bartender, too. Cool guy, cool joint, amidst the wine-tourist-oriented Healdsburg. (Brewery #457, 4/10/2008)
Average but lively pub environment. Didnít eat here. Pretty long beer list has nothing too extraordinary but the standards (RacerX, etc) are solid and some of the specials are too. Like Tartare, the Berliner weiss. Iíd go back for sure.
It wasnít that easy to find with the address as it is inside of some sort of a mall. The city seems to be full of wine tasting shops so this is a nice beer oasis. Beers were tasty and the place quite nice. The toilet was very interesting as brokensail mentioned. When we were ready with the beers I wanted to buy a t-shirt. They had my size and thatís it... I was ready to pay. Then the drama began. The waitress tried to get my credit card from the bartender but she couldnít. There was some tension between them. She asked me to try to get my card back... which was a bit weird as she had the t-shirt I wanted to buy. Then the manager came to see whatís wrong. The waitress started to open up how hard it is to work with the guy behind the bar... very awkward... The manager took the shirt and went to the bartender and said something and soon I got my card back and paid. The bartender was very friendly. I donít know the reason for this bizarre episode but I was happy it was over.
