We felt a little dazed and confused the next morning after a long night of cheerful drinking at Russian River. So, if Hair of the Dog is a quick way to get back into travel mode, we decided to up the potable ante and start with Hair of the Bear. Just north of Santa Rosa, and a pretty 15 minute drive, Bear Republic is squished into the back of a fashionable corner of a lovely small town, and feel much more like a restaurant than the other sites we’ve visited on this trip. But rest assured, the beer is there and good. We sat outside under the din of an air conditioner, but appreciated the shade on a hot Northern California day. The food was excellent, too, and valued cushioning against the beer we’d be throwing on our guts during the day. My girlfriend lavished the ahi tuna salad with praise, and I deeply appreciated the black and blue burger. We wished we had more time to explore the area, too, but breweries and rush hour deadline beckoned. But everything went smoothly here on a calm weekday lunchtime, with great service, great food, great beer and even a little mercy. No faults here.
Decent place. Beer list is very IPA heavy. Which is fine by me, but I generally prefer a little variety. Also, you can’t mix and match for your own flights, they have pre-set ones which is a bummer. I didn’t eat any food but it seemed good from what I saw of others getting. Decent, nothing blew my mind, but decent for sure.
It wasn’t that easy to find with the address as it is inside of some sort of a mall. The city seems to be full of wine tasting shops so this is a nice beer oasis. Beers were tasty and the place quite nice. The toilet was very interesting as brokensail mentioned. When we were ready with the beers I wanted to buy a t-shirt. They had my size and that’s it... I was ready to pay. Then the drama began. The waitress tried to get my credit card from the bartender but she couldn’t. There was some tension between them. She asked me to try to get my card back... which was a bit weird as she had the t-shirt I wanted to buy. Then the manager came to see what’s wrong. The waitress started to open up how hard it is to work with the guy behind the bar... very awkward... The manager took the shirt and went to the bartender and said something and soon I got my card back and paid. The bartender was very friendly. I don’t know the reason for this bizarre episode but I was happy it was over.
Stopped in for a beer and some snacks before dinner at Russian River. Pretty full bar on Thursday afternoon. Sat outside on the patio with a nice view. Tap list includes their usual selections widely available as well as a bunch of brewpub exclusives. Flights available on most beers other than their limited stuff. Food was pretty tasty. Good service.
Located just off the town square. Large inviting bar and dinning area. Comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Ate outside on the porch and enjoined people watching and the garden area…not to mention the beer!
We always make this the final stop after RR and Lagunitas, wife loves Healdsburg.
Beer is always first rate and the food is good. Large patio is perfect during warm weather. Good crowd of locals and beer enthusist.
Great lively place with tons of locals and friendly bartenders to keep you entertained. The staff not only know there stuff, attempt to humor and get to know you. I had a great time and they had 15+ beers on tap. Food was OK, nothing special and during happy hours the prices are down right cheap.
