Hopped up here during beer week 2012 to try some limited or brewery only offerings from one of my favorite brewers. They had several tasty hoppy offerings and one being a very near to style yummy Wee Heavy. This place has a atmosphere with bikes and brewery labeled car parts and such adorning the walls and hanging from the ceiling. The staff was friendly and attentive and the other patrons were even friendlier discussing beer or the picture post card weather we were having that week. I had a blast. I ran into other traveling beer geeks who seemed to have laid out the same brewery/brewpub itinerary as I did as I ran into them at every stop the rest of the day.
Decent sized brewpub with small patio outside. Service was good. I made the mistake of getting the hoppy sampler, which means that I ended up with 8 or 9 beers that were somewhat similar in taste. The Apex and Hop Shovel were the best. Food was good, we tried the Ruben and Tofu sandwiches. Prices seemed OK. Would go again but would definitely like to try some different styles of beer next time.
I like the location. Small town, good vibe, easy to find a seat. Decent selection of beers and many are highly rated. Tables near bar don’t have a server, so you’ll need to see the bartender. Odd, but you have to see the hostess to get merchandise, then go to the bar and pay for it. I enjoyed it though.
Visited for lunch with some beer xnobes, Thursday 04/02/16.
Old skool kind of brewpub - I’d expected something more modern to be honest ... all brown and wood colours with an outside patio. Just one shitter for everyone to share - not good enough in this day and age! The place was fair busy for lunch with a mixed local crowd, service was prompt and bubbly although they forgot one part of my food order! Food was decent enough but nothing to get overly excited about. Best part of 20 beers on tap and tasting flights offered ... kind of split into 2 camps, the regular stuff and the one off sour/strong stuff. As some of the others have said, there were definitely some off notes in some of the beers - line cleaner kind of thang going down. Luckily I had already rated these beers so no big impact personally but obviously a poor show on home territory and should deservedly attract low rating scores. Overall I’d certainly hit up Bear Republic again but the off beers, the dated decor, just the one toilet and the mistake with my food order all kind of chipped away at the score for me and overall it fell below my expectations.
Visited twice during my stay in California. Large classic brewpub setting with lots of classic brewpub food. Lots of beers on tap, all available in samplers with some brewpub exclusives. The quality of the beers is good, service was good as well. Definitely one of the top places in the area.
Came here for lunch in a fairly large group (about eight or so). The selection of beers is great, with tons of stuff available beyond the core range. One major gripe during my visit, however, was that several of the beers we had tasted like detergent or line cleaner. I even went up to the bar to get another pour of one, and right out of the tap it tasted wretched. So, that was quite disappointing. I had a burger and thought it was great. The service was attentive and enthusiastic - to say the least. The place itself is fairly large, with loads of seating, and a relatively laid-back ambiance. Overall, it was a good visit, but the poor condition of some of the beers definitely tainted the experience.
I had a somewhat frustrating experience here. The beer selection was pretty solid (15-20 BR beers were available, including some cool limited stuff), but several beers in the flight I sampled tasted like line washing-up liquid. I was surprised that such a good brewery could drop the ball at their flagship brewpub in such amateur fashion. While the server was happy to replace the beer without question, the episode dampened my experience a bit. Otherwise, the food was pretty decent and the portions were pretty damn massive. Service was pretty bubbly and friendly. Overall, I’m sure this place is usually great, but they were off their game during my lunchtime visit.
Drove up to Healdsburg - which turned out to be a nice town - to visit Bear Republic for lunch and beers. Really nice tap selection, with a core beer lineup, rotating lineup, and barrel-aged lineup on three separate menu pages. The food is okay, but nothing special. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The place itself is comfortable and has a fun atmosphere. Pretty bad bathroom setup, with three urinals about 8 inches apart from each other and a toilet with no stall around it, all in a little room with a sink. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area, but didn’t live up to the word of a few friends who told me about it in advance.
Some solid beers, with lots on draft available in flights, though some of the pours tasted a bit of washing up liquid, probably from not rinsing the glasses properly after washing (which is pretty unprofessional!). Food didn’t live up to the hype as the meat on my cuban was pretty bland. Our server was nice and attentive and offered to pour us new samples when we remarked that some of them tasted off. Interior’s relaxed and spacious. Worth the trip. Payed something like $17 (including tips) for food and quite a few ticks, which is good value.
