Not much to say about this place, looks a bit classy for a corner pub. The beers I tried were overpriced, not very exciting and the bock wasn’t a bock at all. The staff seemed a little condescending, which capped off a pretty poor experience overall. Maybe it just wasn’t my thing and it could suit other people.

Visited July 30, 2013.
Walked down from Southbank, takes a while.
They don’t brew here any longer, and the beer selection both on tap and bottles is crap to worse than that. I edited the place from a brewpub to a bar.
Guy at the bar had no idea what bottles they had, he had to look in the fridge and read them to me. Also had no idea when they actually stopped brewing.
No use going here for beers, at least not from the selection available when i was there.
Fairly big place with plenty of seating inodoors and some outdoors, also a small beer garden available.
Didn’t eat, had one bottle I hadn’t tried before, walked on my way back towards the city.

It’s a nice local pub with now only a couple of house brews available. The Bell’s beer were not good truth be told so perhaps the quality has dropped off over the years. A few other taps mostly macros but they do have Hoegaarden and Leffe Blond .The service was embarrassingly slow and I’d say it’s not worth going out of your way if you’re short on time, as there’s so many other great bars around Melbourne.

Well located pub near the city in one of a handful of Melbourne suburbs blessed with decent pubs. Fairly standard for a slightly upmarket drinking whole and the meals are worthy of mention - bog standard Oz pub grub but done nicely. I was certaintly less enamoured with the beers...fairly unadventurous examples that lacked depth and intensity. Still, it’s a much better alternative to the monopoly offering (CUB) and at least Bells should be commended for continuing with craft brewing over the long haul. Really just a ticking destination for the geek. Beers fully priced at $5 a pot.

Bill Bell is a bit of an eccentric bugger but he is a decent bloke and has been giving us microbrewed beers forever. Certainly it pre-dates ratebeer and a lot of the trendy newcomers to the scene. The beers aren’t always spot on and the food is a bit expensive with the typical offerings of pub fare. A bit out of the way unfortunately

One of my favourite Melbourne haunts. Billy Bell has been selling microbrew an eternity before it was fashionable. The recent expansion has dropped it’s character a notch, but increased the beer line. the micro brew stuff is good and the range of other beers is pretty broad too.

Seems to have become affiliated with CUB. Food is pretty old-school pub fare. New beers with the new brewer (and a new filter apparently). Sitting outside on a summer’s night is cool. Beers are mostly average but the stout is really good.
Update: (Apr07) They have a couple of beer engines in the main bar, but they seem to have become dedicated to Matilda Bay products, and not the house brews, which annoys me no end. Things were looking up with some interesting new beers a while back but they had a prolonged period with no brewer and the range seems to have returned to the old standards. Luckily the stout is still there and still awesome.
