Best experience of a great trip to Antwerp/Brussels. Insane tap list of Belgian and international heavy weights. Solid bottle list by beer lovers. GREAT food. All of it fairly cheap. And they play Pink Floyd.
Very small cosy traditional bar that serves s small selection of interesting modern and traditional beers. Is Untappd verified venue so it is easy to check what is available. Satisfactory service. Limited opening hours. Closed Tuesday.
Don’t let the name fool you, this is a very atmospheric bar on two levels that’s well known for its tasty food. Nice taplist, and you can do flights. Yes, you read that correctly. Beer flights in Belgium. Now I’ve seen everything. Good list too, and a great variety of bottles. Worth going out of your way to visit.
Wen I originally added and rated this place ( september 30th 2014 ) the place was in the middle of the big change that got them out of the mainstream-beerscene ( inbev, and such ) to the craftbeerkingdom it is today. I rated it a score it deserved back than, but I do no longer fully agree with this original rating. Eversince I’ve written it, the place has kept skyrocking, and took -together with other great bars - the whole scene in the city of antwerp to a new high. Where I was the only place serving foreign craftbeers ( whilst I was working at bierhuyske ) this place def helped creating the steppingstone for the great selection we see in antwerp today. The service is amazing, as they did just about everything they could to turn from a non-beerplace, to a world-class top-bar. Prices are sometimes a bit high, and selection and bar can both be rather small, but that’s just about all the negativity I can come up with here. Antwerp nowaday has many places I view as world-class, and the whole city is surfin’ on the wind of change in craftbeer. Between all of those great bars, Billies has grown out to be one of my personal top places in the city. Not only is it the single cosiest place around (in the world of craftbeer ) it also has one of the top interesting selections. keep up the good work, Billie and co !!! ( pun intended, cheers stefan / Helena + staff ! )
Original review ( 84 score ) New place in Antwerp , In between Gollem and Kulminator . Def. worth a visit , here’s why ; The owner is a guy ( + wife ) that is working with his newfound passion of special Beers . He’s learning, but he’s learning fast . I’ve seen this place grow a lot in less than a month time . It now is suitable for Ratebeer , as it serves many craft beers now . Think of struise , troubadour , duchesse , .. ) Even thinking about some internationals . The service might not know everything (yet ! ) yet is amongst the friendliest to be found . The interior is very specific . Its a tiny place ( really small ) with a second floor . The bathroom faces a shelve that is FILLED with books . Everything has a feeling of visiting the house of someone , more than a bar . Very nice ! Prices are fair to Low . Selection is nice, well thought trough , yet No ticks . Than again, are ticks necessary if you can enjoy a Pannepot for the cheapest price in Antwerp ????
they also do food, yet I have not tried that . Yet the ( always friendly ) other customers have sworn me they never had better tomatosoup .
Cool and cozy little bar with typical rustic feeling that you get in ’brown cafés’
nice taplist with variation in both belgian and international brewers, also seasonals and classics, so good for everyone.
The food is very nice, fresh and the portions enormous ! also lot’s of dishes with beer in it wich is a big plus for me !
Staff is always friendly and will help as much as they can, the owner and his dog are one of a kind and makes this place even better.
The bottle list is maybe a little smaller than what im used at in most antwerp beerpubs, but nevertheless great bottle list.
Only downside maybe is that it’s tiny so if you want to go with a group on a friday, saturday or holiday it can be very busy.
And in summertime it’s crazy hot inside.
But those are things easly fixed.
This place came very high recommended by some people, so checked it out. Unfortunatly, I don’t get the fuzz. Beer selection was indeed nice, but nothing too special you wouldn’t find in the Beerlover’s bar of Bierhuyske. The food was very mediocre... Both my and my gf’s dish was plain simple, warmed up in the oven. Too bad. Will not return.
