I visited this place yesterday. It’s got a nice, open, airy feeling to it, with plenty of tables and a fairly large area for bar seating. The bathrooms are unique...they’re unisex with big large heavy doors to each toilet. They had about 4 of their house beers on tap, along with about another 6-8 guest beers. They have a pretty extensive bottle list, which focuses more on imports. Some Cantillon is on the list. The food menu is pretty eclectic, and they have a good variety of tapas. I had the smoked BBQ chicken sandwich, which was perfectly done. The bread was great, and the chicken was remarkably tender. I also tried my brother’s smoked trout, which was good, but very rich and a bit too smoked. His smoked potato salad was ridiculously smoked, and overpowered everything. The house beers were definitely rushed, and all of them had a significant diacetyl component. I am going to give them a mulligan, seeing they are still learning their system, and probably can’t keep up with demand at this point. The brewer seemed to know that his beer was sub-par, and he gave us a sample of his stout, which was really good (mid to high 3’s). The staff was friendly and helpful. All in all, a good place with great potential. They need to tweak some things, and I imagine they will. I’ll definitely come back when I am back in the area in 6 months.
Warned that this place can get packed on a Saturday night, especially on nights where there might be a hockey game on, we made sure we got here a bit before the game started. November of 2014 or 15. Plenty of open seating, grabbed two seats at the bar, one of them right in front of the tv, one behind a pillar. Then someone left and we both got prime viewing real estate. Prices here do tend to be a bit on the high side, at least in terms of the sampler I felt. OR may it just seemed that way. Nine pours of four ounces each, $25. Pints are 7.5 for the regular stuff, 9 for the bigger things, which is also a dollar or more higher than the other destination brewpubs in the city. Food – I went with tapas. Tostada, house smoked potato salad, kidney bean hummus with peppers. My wife opted for the house-smoked meat plate. Everything was quite tasty. Potatoes seemed just the slightest bit underdone, but it’s close. The smoke was subtle and added nicely.
It was bustlin’ with groups of the after-work crowd when I stopped by. The small brewing kit is visible along the back wall. There is around a dozen beers on tap and the server mentioned it would be $24 to try them all. Not wanting that much beer I just settled for two glasses, one each of their blanche beers. I had a decent smoked salmon plate. Service was okay but somewhat chaotic as I had three different waitstaff coming by to take my orders. A trendy hangout for nearby workers and conveniently located just outside the old town.
Beau petit brouepub, belle décoration et bien situé, à proximité du vieux-port. Service super sympathique et efficace. La nourriture semblait plutôt bonne, bien que je n’y ai pas goûté et les prix sont correct si on prend en compte le coin. C’est au niveau des bières que ça se gâte. Sans être problématique, la majorité des bières sont sans grand intérêt.
On the western edge of Old Montreal you’ll find this stylish brewpub with friendly staff who know their beers well. I lucked out in that at a beer tasting I went to I met someone who worked there who hooked me up with their tasty beers. If visiting Montreal, wander through the Old Port and pop in here for a bite and a beer. I recommend the Master Ninja IPA...
A short walk from the convention center through Old Montreal. It’s a fairly modern space with a small outdoor patio that was doing a brisk business when I was in for lunch. Seems to have higher ambitions with respect to the food than with respect to the beer. A decent sandwich but the beers were pretty by the numbers. They weren’t bad by any stretch but certainly nothing to write home about either. Friendly, if distracted, service. Pretty pricy though.
Visité le mercredi 23 janvier 2013 en début de soirée. L’endroit est fait sur le long avec les cuves qui sont visibles au fond à travers les fenêtres. Le menu qui est assez complet était présenté sur un clipboard. J’ai pris le braisé de gibier (sanglier, cerf, bison). Le tout était servi dans une petite poêle en fonte disposée sur une planche de bois. La viande était savoureuse mais la portion était plutôt petite et le tout n’était pas très chaud. J’ai essayé 2 de leurs bières (Marguerite, L’Appât-Si-Noir) qui étaient correctes mais pas sans défauts. Le service était courtois mais un peu imprécis.
Visited in a brief trip to Montreal on a Sunday night. It was quiet, but not empty. Seemed a nice friendly place. Food menu appealing and the fromage/charcuterie was not bad (very few beer bars seem to really let rip with the cheese, unlike more wine-focused venues). Beer selection had I guess 8-9 taps plus some mostly Belgian bottles, the taps I had were all decent. Not super cheap. I’d come here again, the dark malty beers were particularly enjoyable.
