This place is little more than a few shelves and a two-tap bar, but they manage to cram a lot of good beer into the limited space. Lots of UK classics, plenty of internationals (think US, Scandinavia, Belgium). Good prices, energetic service. There are a bunch of other nifty stalls in the Goods Shed, the collective that the Bottle Shop shares. Overall, this place is not a destination in and of itself, but it is spitting distance from the train station (Canterbury West) so if youíre passing through town by train you may as well pop in to check it out.

We visited The Bottle Shop, Friday 11th March 2016 and again Saturday 12th March, weíd been here before a few years ago with Ian (Harrisoni) but for some reason I hadnít reviewed it back then. This place is situated in an old Goods Shed to the RH side of Canterbury West railway station itís about 8-10 mins walk from the centre of town but it is well signposted.
The Bottle Shop shares floor space in this market type environment with a restaurant, bar, butchers, fishmongers, two cheese stalls, greengrocers etc.and it can be found centrally located by a door against the wall. It is essentially two book shelf type shelving units, a fridge and a counter with a keykeg chiller dispensing unit offering two tap choices. Any of the beers can be purchased and taken away or consumed on site at one of the centrally located tables or if these are busy there are a couple of small tables and chairs by side the door adjacent to the bottle shop.
The service is great, Drew who was working on the Friday was especially knowledgeable and really friendly and chatty. I guess that one very slight criticism and this is only a slight knock at what is a great venture, is that it is a little pricey, but for most people they are unlikely to get more than the odd couple of bottles so I guess it is not a huge issue, but it is a bit expensive. For its size the choice is surprisingly good with some great american offerings alongside Mikkeller, Buxton, Magic Rock, Beavertown, BBN, etc. On the Friday we had the Magic Rock Ginspired and Common Ground both on tap. On the Saturday we arrived much later in the day when many other businesses were starting to shut up shop, we sat here for a while people watching, it was great, we had a BBN DIPA, an Ironfire can a Burning Sky bottle and one further bottle (name forgotten) it was fascinating watching the butcher putting away all of his meats he has quite a system for doing this. Itís well worth a walk from the centre, itís clearly not a pub/bar in the usual sense but it works well here, so well that these guys branched out to join the Bermondsey beer mile by opening a much bigger unit under the arches there.
Intresting place in an old railway station in Canterbury. Nice selection of British craft brewers and also the better European and American stuff. Prices are not cheap but ok. Friendly service, also some beers on tap. Nice to visit!
As a regular traveller from London to Canterbury, this place is a godsend. Great selection, and part of a lively food market.
I only wish it was open a little earlier so we can stock up before the cricket.
I have travelled from Dublin a couple of time to Kent. The bottle shop is a must visit. Truly amazing selection of craft both British & international. Always tempted to ship brews home. A wealth of knowledge, always helpful and suggestive staff. pity the euro is so weak / the pound is so strong otherwise I would use this place as my local offy and shippy by weekily!!
A great selection of beers from the UK and elsewhere.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, they managed to help me select a dozen beers from the UK for the French palette.
Fantastic beers, great staff all in all a great place!
Over the past few years, i must have bought more beer here than anywhere else in the country. Itís only 16 minutes on the train to Canterbury so I can do door to door in 30 minutes. Service has been fantastic from several of the staff. Prices can be expensive for the higher end bottles, but there is also good value in a lot of the other beers. Now with a few beers on tap too. My nearest place for lambic.
