Visited at lunchtime on Saturday 8th Decemeber ’12. Medium sized single room venue, bar to the left as you enter. 8 cask, largely scottish micros including Tryst, Stweart and Hghland Brewing Co on my visit, nearly always one or two English offerings as well. Place was pretty busy so we stood by the bar. Service was prompt and we never had to wait. Have visited the Bow many times, classic trad bar and a must on a visit to the Burgh!

Fantastic original pub in the center of Edinburgh. Well worth visiting for whisky and beer. The whisky selection is second to none and the beers on tap are interesting and varied. The staff is friendly and knowledable. The room is a bit battered but that also adds to the charm. Not much seating but usually room for everyone. No food.

Classic little bar which is actually a fairly new recreation of an Edinburgh pub - not so’s you would notice though, it seems as if it’s been there for ever. Serves eight beers on air fount (NOT KEG!!!) and has a great selection of single malts too. The only food seems to be pies! Excellent little pub, and an essential visit when in Edinburgh - the beers are amongst the best you’ll find in town.

Visited on 30th October 2016. Situated on the hill between the Grass Market and the Royal Mile this is a lovely old pub I can’t believe I haven’t rated. Large single roomed place, bar with beer served by air pressure adds a lovely traditional feel to the place. Good range of regional cask beers, prices decent, service good. Once you’ve got a beer you can retire to the seating with the really small, narrow table fixed to the floor. A popular spot and rightly so.

Cozy and traditional, but lively little pub just below the Castle. Although in attractive part of town doesn’t feel touristy. Friendly people. Gets very busy especially in the evening. Good selection of real ales, mostly local breweries. Great selection of whisky. Good prices. Well worth visiting.

Beer pub with a traditional set-up just off Grassmarket. Seven cask and a handful of keg beers from Loch Ness brewery are available. They also have a brilliant bottle selection which includes Scottish craft names such as Elixir alongside international heavyweights. I think the bottles are a bit in the pricey side, but some of this stuff is hard to find (especially in England), and the cask & keg are reasonable enough to compensate. The bar also has a pleasant feel: well-loved without being rammed, and a bit old-fashioned without being the least bit twee.

A heavenly little pub with a solid range of cask beers; but the highlight here is certainly the whisky. The ambiance in here is simple and the vibe convivial. The pricing is fair, the staff very friendly and helpful. The cask range is not overly progressive but with an emphasis on the local there’s lots of fun stuff to be had.

One of Edinburgh’s top spots. Absolutely worth a visit.

A great old school place - one single room with functional furniture (I particularly liked those very narrow formica tables, which are rarely seen these days). It’s also friendly and welcoming and had a good line up of eight cask beers plus one keg. (Visited 30 January 2017).

A great old skool gem in the heart of Edinburgh’s tourist area. Exceptional single malt whiskey selection, second to none there. Cask ales were prominent, conditioning was good. Acorn Citra IPA was well conditioned, no chemical residue or other issues, staff were exceptionally polite, beer was flowing and punters were game. This place got very packed very quickly so advise to go early for seats. For value wise it’s not too bad. There are some expensive whiskies here yes but they are world class. You pay for what you get as they say. The beer range was good and I was very happy to see a stout in August even though it wasn’t actually descent. Acorn Citra was a great relief from a hilly walk and a good example of single hop citra. Good venue and want to go back. Also cool old skool beer signs on the wall but classy not tacky ones.

20.09.2009. The Bow Bar is a small bar. There is no music and the lights are on. I love the atmosphere that creates. I love to sit down and listen to people talking when I try a new beer. The beer selection is pretty good. The man behind the bar was friendly and helped me with beernames and styles. The whiskey selection was eaven greater I think there must have been more than 100 different bottles there. When I visited there was 14 taps, where 8 was casks/guest beers?
