In a way, the complete opposite of Macche: it’s big, airy, with a lot of excellent food. On the other hand the love for beer is exactly the same, the staff is equally friendly and competent, probably even more daring and experimental in their selection. Just a bit expensive, but you get what you’re paying for. Don’t miss it.
This place should be the example for all bar pubs and restaurant entrepreneurs.
Very good staff, big range of beers very pleasant to stay and not only for one day.
good food paring
very well done, Alex
I might not be too objective after a RBESG arranged by Alex,
But Brasserie 4:20 is without any doubt one of the few real amazing beer spots in the world.
Beer selection is amazing, the sea-food is the best i got in Rome and Alex and the staff are some of the friendliest people i have meet. 4:20 serves beers, water and whisky only. No wines, soda, cocktails, they have true dedication for the beers and the food they serve, beyond anything we would see. I will happy spend more days and nights here, so 4:20 you can be sure that we will be coming back soon. Is it value for my money, for me yes. Thanks a lot, Alex ;O)
(please make a web.page with a updated blackboard of what is on tap)
From the moment I entered it was clear I was going to be impressed. 4 days later after struggling to drag myself away, I know it’s simply one of the top bars in the world, absolutely no doubt. The refurbishment of the railway arch has been done with great attention to detail and considerable style. It has the right blend of high end design and a feel of relaxed comfort. Early on you can pick your seat or even better, sit at the bar as it’s a thing of real beauty. The beers come from the cellar through a huge chrome pipe, dropping down to the taps or on to the work of art that is the chrome handpumps. From 10pm onwards, the place is absolutely buzzing (but never feels overcrowded) and the tasteful blues gives way to things a little heavier and the volume goes up a little. You have your choice, go early and chill or go later and have a mad one. We did both, three days straight. The staff know their stuff and look after you superbly and the food is of exceptional quality for the price. I have often paid a lot more than this and had food no where near as good.
Ok. Beer. There’s no crap here. The taps are an ever changing extravaganza of the best beer in the world. The handpump list is expertly chosen and delivered in stunning condition. I had what I honestly think is the best pint of Dark Star Hophead that I’ve had. Then there’s the vintage bottle list. It’s the best list I’ve seen. Darkness, Dark Lord, anything you could want from Struise and De Molen, the best of Italy, specials from Nårke and I don’t just mean Kaggen and so on. It’s simply an exceptional list. Then there’s the lambic fridge. It’s orgasmic. Let’s just say, I was pretty much in heaven. A word about price. A few here say the prices are high. They aren’t. The tap and cask list are very good value. €5 for a glass of De Molen H&V or Struise Pannepot Reserva is more than ok. The final thing to say is about the owner himself. If there was a competition for world champion host, Alex would win. No question. Ask anyone who has experienced his exceptional hospitality. If you’re going to Rome and you want to visit other places, go there first. Once you settle into 4:20, it’s almost impossible to leave.
