Don’t underestimate this place by its exterior appearance. Large selection of stuff from the region and around the world. Very friendly and helpful staff. Don’t forget to check in the Beer Cave! That’s where most of the local stuff is, including a bunch of growlers. Great place.
Visited right before dinner on a Tuesday. Easy to find on a busy corner, with parking around the back on both sides. Nice open design to the store, bar is up front, beer around the side and in back. Draft beer is available, and there were a few folks hanging around socializing. The selection was solid, saw quite a few sought after local and national craft bottles. Service was friendly, good vibe to this place.
76 = ★★★ (Worth the visit, must for locals, and visitors with time)
I only use the total score, not the component parts.
You can tell by all the single digit reviewers this place is definely benefitting from some home team scoring. The construction in the parking lot matters less than the fact that much of the shop was not particularly tidy. The selection is solid but I didn’t see much I haven’t seen at 20 other bottle shops in this state. It’s true the service is friendly and the prices are reasonable but a top 10 NC destination. Not a chance.
Glad to finally get here after trying for quite a while. Much smaller than I expected, and the parking is commensurate. Tight inside with piles of beer everywhere, which is exactly what I like. That being said, the selection is very nice, with lots of local, US and foreign stuff, including some rarer stuff. Prices are OK, and I got a free glass, which is cool. The will break SOME sixers but not all. Mike the owner was very cool. Nice stop. Definitely recommended.
Other customers called the guy working on both my visits Brawley. Anyway, he is awesome. He looked for beer for me that I couldn’t find on the shelves and provided plenty of information about some brews. He chatted politely and seems to have tried most everything there before ordering it. I tried to buy a porter, but he explained politely that it was the only one in the store because he had to sample it before making an order for it. To compensate, he gave me a free glass snifter. The beers are arranged very haphazardly, but the guy seems to know where everything is, so asking for help usually results in a pinpointed location. The cost of beers seemed about right (lower than in my area), but I live in TN where beer is way overpriced. Great selection, I visited two days in a row and different beer was available already.I love this place.
In Charlotte for the weekend so I had to stop by here basef on the reviews. I hate to be critical about a small town place, especially with how awesome Mike the owner was, but this is not a place worth stopping by if you are from out of town. If you live in Charlotte and this is the best you have, then go for it. However, based on beer stores nationally this place is merely average. The selection is average, there are tons of bottles but its basically just all the staples from Belgium, Germany and the US. The regional selection was severely lacking, past the point of disappointment. There was one style of Duck Rabbit, one sytle of Olde Meclenberg then a couple growlers from Catawba. No local 6 packs to go or anything like that at all. There was practically nothing I couldn’t get anywhere else except Cascade Kriek and Sibernain nights. which are awesome. As everyone said Mike is super friendly and I got a free glass too. The selection and quality, probably due to distrubtion just isn’t there. Needs to be stacked with locals IMHO. If your in town for a quick visit don’t bother.
Small dedicated free lot in the back. The place has a few taps at the newer bar, but nothing I wanted to try the times I have been here (Duckworth’s had better tap selections). The selection of bottles decreases every time I come here (I would suspect they do not have 350 different bottle labels here now), quality bottles are still available. Descent selection of locals (Wicked Weed, sometimes Westbrook Gose) and US (Cascade), pretty good selection of Belgians, and limited Germans. Pretty good prices. Helpful and pretty knowledgeable service. Spent quite some time looking over my list. Hope to come back.
Nice little store. Not the biggest selection, but they have quite a few brews I have not seen elsewhere. Not the best place if your looking for local brews, but you could tell they specialize in bringing in beers that you won’t find at most places. Cooler area had growlers from Green Man and Catawba Valley. What makes this place special is the owner. Michael provided the best service I have ever experienced from a bottle shop. Only picked up a couple of bottles from Olde Hickory and he let me have a free glass. Cool place.
Updated Rating 2017: Ever since this place added the bar, there has been progressively less and less bottled beer available. Still some decent selection (including getting rarer beers), but it is getting more limited these days. Also, whenever I visit this place in the evening, it is always packed with customers from the bar area. A number of times, this has made browsing the beer selection quite difficult because people are standing in front of coolers and in front of the beer shelves. All in all, this place is still definitely a good one to check out, but there are some other places with better selection these days. Going to drop the score slightly.
Previous Rating 2014: It doesn’t look like it from the outside, but this is a nice little bottle shop. A lot of different single bottles offered at this location. While there are places around Charlotte that may have a larger selection of bottles, this place has some of the best quality beers.
Great place that has friendly and knowledgable service from the owner’s Mom and a dog. Being from the south and loving beer, I would like to live in this store. The bottles must number more than 500 now and are all available in singles at fair prices. I can’t imagine a better selection in the Charlotte metro area, and recommend stopping in if your within a half hour’s drive.
