Very traditional pub in the bridge area, next to Stephenson’s High Level Bridge, with some spectacular views. A bit of a treck up from the lower level pubs but well worth the effort. Stained glass and wood adorn the bar area, there is a heap of friendly banter to be had. Decent choice of cask beers, I believe there were 8 hand pumps in operation on our visit. Good place.

Visited on 30th April 2017. This is a lovely looking old pub about 5 mins walk from Central station and in the shadow of the High Level Bridge. Huge ornate bar area and large single room with little partitions make it nice to relax in, there’s also a beer garden out back looking over the Tyne. A good selection of cask beers from Northern brewers plus a few keg offerings too. Picked up plenty of new rakes here. Service good, prices decent and beer was well looked after. A great pub and definitely worthy of a visit.

Visited in Fabruary 2016 for the first time in many years. Part of the small Sir John Fitzgerald chain operating in and around Newcastle. One of the stalwarts of the Newcastle beer scene and still pretty sprightly even if it’s more focused of traditional cask ales than new fangled "craft" keg. Plenty of interest on the ten handpumps, including local from the local Brinkburn Street & Credence breweries, whose beers we hadn’t seen anywhere else. It’s a quite large Victorian (I’d guess) pile that’s quite ornate in places but had a pleasingly lived in feel. There’s some nice stained glass windows although they look more modern. It occupies an elevated position right next to the high level bridge with good views over the river, although navigation in these parts isn’t always as straightforward as it may appear due to the differing street levels. There’s a spacious terrace overlooking the river that would be a pleasant spot if the weather was clement (it wasn’t). Still an essential stop on a Newcastle pub crawl.

A great place between the castle and the river with very interesting views. It’s rather genteel - polished wood panelling, comfortable seating and some lovely art deco style stained glass panelling in the windows capturing the essence of the area. The service was friendly, the beer range was excellent (there were ten interesting casks on offer) and the Bridge Hotel was, at this stage of our Newcastle trip, one of my favourite pubs although, as we were to discover, the competition is steep. (Visited 9 February 2016).

I like the interior of this place, quite welcome and cosy, yet spacious. The beer range is pretty good too, with Three Kings The Castle being brewed especially for the pub.

Not the best beer pub we visited in Newcastle. A good selection of beers on handpump, but a much smaller selection of keg and bottled beers than other pubs in the chain like Bacchus. Worth a visit.

Big well established Newcastle drinking barn. Usually a good selection, often with something out of the ordinary. Can get very busy, so can’t comment on the staff knowledge, but they seem to be ever changing, and mainly from the local student body. Good place to gather for a night out, and if you can get a space outside on the rear patio in good weather, that’s a bonus.

Ah another solid Newcastle pub. Roomy, spacious, easy, welcoming. Not like some of the others that have got more trendy stuff. We stayed at the Vermont next door (great hotel BTW).

Nice relaxed place with a good range of beers in the city centre of Newcastle.
