This is the taproom/tasting room of Brouwerij t’Ij, so people complaining about selection are idiots - you basically have all of their brews available here. The interior has a unique charm (it once was a public bathhouse and most of the place still looks like that, tiling included). Considering how crowded it can get, the service is incredibly fast (did you ever see anyone pour a perfect half-pint in less than 2 seconds?!) I challenge you to find a better value for money place in Amsterdam. A must visit, period.
Visited several times since 2008. The place feels cosy, homey, and the outdoor terrace is really nice for a toke with your beer. Last time there were 7 different beers on tap, including some specials. The best value bar in Amsterdam, a must!
We go to Amsterdam every couple of years and we will hit this place at least every other day. We buy bottles to take home to US. We love the cheese and salami plates, love the beer. The variety of people you meet is wonderful. You have to like crowds though! Get there early for a seat.
Love this place. Incredible beer from a tiny windmill. All of their offerings are good, but the Zatte is exceptional, a triple with a smooth drinkability that is not associated with such big beer. They also have a very clean Wit beer, coriander, and wheat flavors, that go good on the rare hot days in A’dam. Never had a problem with the smoke or the service, one whole side of the building opens to a great lil beergarden. and there is at least 2 people behind the bar when I have visited. Pleasantly located outside the rings of the city, but close enough to walk from Centraal. The only thing I don’t like about the place is the limited hours.
Beautiful location - it’s in a windmill! Their house beers are quite good, and well-priced (cheaper to drink it there than buy it in the bottle in stores, so I found). I especially enjoyed their tripel (Zatte). If you want to do a brewery tour, you’ll need to get there VERY early (we were there 30 minutes ahead of time and it was already sold out). Staff is efficient and keeps the beers coming, even when the place is packed. Worth a visit!
