An absolutely amazing place for great beer and great service. A beer selection to die for, with 40+ beers on tap, and 200+ bottled beer. A service staff with an extensive knowledge of all things beer, polite, and always willing to make you comfortable and happy. The first time I went to CAH, I actually was able to speak to the owner, who was a perfect host. A must see if in Richmond! They are opening a new resturaunt in early April! Check the home website for details.
Simply put there is no greater selection of beer in the city. Additionally they have an on/off license, so you can get any of those lovely bottles to go. Or...if you have a growler (or want to purchase one) you can get taps to go as well. They’re great about letting you try it first (on tap), and the bar staff are all trained to know the difference between an ale and lager and know what is rare. (Speaking of rare - ask about the back stock to see if they have anything hanging out in the ’way back’ of the fridge that you can buy.) Overall the food is a fair stretch better than bar food - but typically not gourmet (except for the mussels).
The best place I’ve ever been. If muslims drank this would be there mecca. I once bought a $15 beer and it was obvious I hated it, the bartender came, took it away and took it off my tab...I didnt have to say a thing. They gie samples and have a ice strip on the bar. The other location is nice but they are much quicker to cut you off.
Decent clean place. The upstairs bar has an ice strip to keep your drink cold. The usual pool and darts (downstairs). Yes the food is a little pricey, except for monday nights. The staff are great. Beer samples are twenty-five cent, but the two times I have been in there the staff offered one or two samples free if you were just looking for one beer to stick with the whole evening.

Located in the business area dowtown. Street or garage parking. Inside has a clean, friendly pub atmosphere. Comfortable and modern. A little loud when we went but there’s plenty of seating with enough away from smoke. Also, plenty of bar stools. An iced section on the bar keeps your beer cool, if you like that. A novelty but still cool. Service was above average. A decent selection of well made food, plenty of traditional German dishes with some seafood, steak, sandwiches, salads etc. The beer menu is amazing, at least 30 quality beers on tap plus another hundred or so rare brews in bottles available to take home at a 25% discount form the menu price. The only complaint is that the prices are a bit steep for both food and beer. But you get what you pay for.
This is just my favorite place in Richmond. It’s 10 minutes from work and 10 minutes from home, and it’s equally dangerous each way. Their food is excellent and not all that pricey (burgers at 8 or 9 bucks) and their fries are perfection (served with flavored mayo, of course). They are always rotating thier taps and they get some really special beers. Most people there don’t know what the hell they are drinking but seem happy to be there. It’s almost out of place in little Richmond, but I’m glad to see it doing so well.
