Tourist trap or not, the interior is nothing short of magnificent. In fact, the looks are the main reason I wouldn’t miss this restaurant, as their ’house beer’ is rather lame (though you can always have the excellent Ursus Black), service is nice but slow (too few waiters for this amount of patrons) and prices are on the high end. Oh, the food - I had Romanian sausages that were very tasty. Would probably not go back unless I start earning twice as much as I do, but nevertheless a valuable experience.
This is really huge restaurant just in the city center. I think there were arount six to eight beers on tap (one home made, than Ursus in a lot of versions, Pilsner Urquell others i do not remember). The place is very crowded so without reservation you have to wait until some table become free. Staff was ok, but waiting time for beer was the longest i ever wait :) Food selection is big with lot of Romainian traditional meals.
Home made beer is low average pale lager. You could live without it, but the place is nice to visit.
Not really worth to go for beer there, as the restaurant only has a few on tap, the most interesting of which is the house beer which is just a mediocre pale lager. But the place itself is so beautiful and well preserved, situated in the historical center of Bucharest, that you just cannot pass by.
A beautiful beautiful beautiful restaurant (the 3 x beautiful is not a typo). So nice is this restaurant that we decided to sit inside despite the large front street patio and the very nice warm sunny day. Very large place that can probably sit over 200 people. They have 6 different beers on tap (that’s many taps for Romania), one of them is a house beer called Caru cu Bere Berea Casei. The other 5 were the likes of Tuborg, Guinness and such. Not bottles, 6 beers on tap, that’s it. I suppose the house beer is the reason why this place is on ratebeer, it’s listed on ratebeer as a Czech Pilsner/Světlý, I call bullshit, this is a shitty pale lager. Still, this is an old classic restaurant in Bucharest that is really worth a visit. Many efficient, polite and hyperactive staff (a rarity in Bucharest). Large food menu with typical Romanian prepare in a superior fashion. Prices are a bit high. Really worth stopping by for a meal because the place is so beautiful and also if you want the rare Caru cu Bere Berea Casei tick.
I have been to this palce several times and it is more about the restaurant than about beer. Fantastic interior architecture and a decent food menu. The beers are limited, but he, you can have their own brew. Small selection otherwise. Always very, very busy, you have to make reservations. Just a fun place.
This upmarket restaurant is located in the old center of Bucharest (Lipscani area) which is recently renovated (almost finished as of april 2012). The selection of beers is limited. I recommend the home brew called "Berea casei", for a decent, fresh, pale lager. The music is classical played live.
The exterior is designed in gothic architecture.
The interior is amazing with mural paintings and a nice gothic architecture.
The music is classical played live.
The prices are ok for a city like Bucharest.
