This is a good beer place in a city with many beer venues. There is a bar with a few stools, a few booths and some tall barrel tables, all with a good view of two flat screen TVs. The wait people are very attentive and there is a good selection of brewery beers, including two that are served directly from the aging barrels. You will definitely find something you like. They offer full-size beers or samplers of anything on the menu. A must stop place.
In the door around 3:30 on the first Wednesday in July 2017. Nice open feel for the space, a small group of people here already, but mostly empty. For a place with a majority of their beers being sour, there’s a huge selection, with a number of different vintages of some of the beers.
Staff was friendly and courteous, amusing conversations.
We split some bread and pickles and worked our way through the list, 2 2oz pours at a time. Everything (except the 4oz only bottle pours) is available as a 2oz, meaning you can work through a list of close to 20 sour beers (some are vintage editions of various things) , in an amount that will not require replacing either the enamel on your teeth or the lining on your esophagus. The beers are good. I’d assume if you’re going here you already know and love the quality of their sours (otherwise why go to a place with ~20 sours and ~5 non sours?), so that’s a known.
Got here 1 min after they opened during the week, so I had the place all to myself! One of my top places to get to during my PDX vacation and I was not surprised. Good food too ... only thing was the $ per small pours, but I guess that lines up with the cost of their bottles. If you are a sour and beer fan, a must stop for sure.
Smaller than I expected. Great selection of Cascade sours, had the Tangerine Dream which was wonderful. Some non-sour beers available as well. Very attentive staff, eager for a chat. Prices are normal for Cascade, meaning on the hefty side, very small pours are available for the obsessed-with-ticking crowd. Overall nice place, might return if we find the time. *** And I did find time to return on your final evening in Portland. Unfortunately, only time for one more beer before closing time. I thought the place came out better during the evening.
Loads of fruited sour beers on offer, plus a handful of clean ones. Service was prompt and knowledgeable. The interior looks like it could use a bit of a refresh, but the quality of the beer more than makes up for it.
If you like sours, or are even interested in them, this is a must visit. One of the classic PNW sour purveyors with their own house flavors (love it or leave it), this is a brewery to be reckoned with. Space is nice: good outdoor space with a modest number of tables inside plus a long bar. A huge selection of Cascade beers on tap, on cask (including the weekly tapping of a new wood keg) and vintage in bottles. Pretty good prices for small samples. Always, always something new here.
