Visited for the first time last August while renewing my passport at the nearby passport office, can certainly recommend this place as a stopover while you utilise the same day service before picking it up :) On our visit it was baking hot outside, but when we arrived here was glad to come in to a well air conditioned venue to cool off, and enjoy a refreshing beer. Was pretty quiet for a afternoon week day as to be expected. Good service and really solid selection across tap and cask, had a lovely Kernel beer of keg which went down a treat, they had some Tiny Rebel on and also tried a selection beers from across the UK from brewers I had not heard of or tried before, so certainly not only London focused (on our visit at least) overall this is a quality spot and well worth seeking out.
A very big pub in a decent London neighbourhood. Lots of local and imported beers both on tap and plenty more in bottles. Good advice from the barmen, was quiet on a weekday afternoon when I visited. Great stop whilst beer hunting in London. Some snacks on the board but I didn’t try them.
Popular casual sit-down place in a less touristic part of central London. Good variety of mostly British ales, cask and keg, trad and modern. A bit corporate and generic feeling. Friendly, helpful bar staff. That said this place is way overrated. Lots of places in town have good beer lists.
Tap list is not updated (I was there at opening and half the listed beers were out).
I was surprised by how bad the food was. Institutional cafeteria bad. The folks at a table near mine laughed out loud when their food arrived. For a place with kitchen in the name, they could crack a few cookbooks.
Worth the visit, but not at all impressed, and this is a good way down on my list of top craft beer/gastropubs. Selection of bottles, cask and keg were impressing (really enjoyed the cask line), but running out of some of the announced kegs of the day before 16 o’clock is not good. Quite puzzled also by announcing a Berliner weisse as a Hefe weisse on the beer menu, and the bartender’s struggle to fill each glass exactly to the 1/2 pint line turned really comical in the end. Charming mix of guests with a good representation of locals at all ages.
