Totally agree with sebletitje below. Typical Belgian bar-cafe. Nothing more, nothing less. No need to be listed on RateBeer.

Normal Belgian bar with a few rather standard taps, a normal bottle list and a principally solid atmosphere which gets destroyed by a large TV playing music videos and a blinking slot machine. Not really a great place, but if you go there, do go on the place Jourdan and get those famous fries (you are allowed to eat them inside the bar).

Very boring, ordinary Belgian bar. Peeked inside and not a whole lot happening.

Another Bruxelles entry that should not even be on RB. This is a typical bar with ample Inbev products. Its only positive note is the great frites stand ’Chez Antoine’ on the place Jourdan that has some of Bruxelles’ best frites (as the huge line can attest). Beer selection is what you can get in most bars around Belgium with nothing that will stand out. Atmosphere, well you have Bernard the owner, bartender who fits many hats depending of his mood, and the noise of slot machines in the back. This is a student place along with plenty of EU commission customers since many are located right up the street. It has this Belgian atmosphere, but I certainly would not go out of my way or the center of Bruxelles to go drink there.

Chez Bernard is a local Brussel’s brasserie / pub which became an icon in Brussel’s EU quarter. The offical name of the pub is L’esperance (chez Bernard is in fact the next door restaurant owned by the same patron), But once on Place Jourdan you will find your way. Loud and lively meeting point of local residents, EU bureaucrats, journalists, and even blue colar workers. After EU summits you can see even some European heads of state or government to come and have a beer after midnight chez Bernard. The place features a typical smell combining beer, pommes frites and cigarette smoke (the later only until 01.07.2011). No food served, but you can bring your own food. I’ve never figured out, when Chez Bernard opens (probably before noon), and they close at 01.30 (after midnight)or later if here are enough guests and the waiters expect high turnover. Choice of 6 draught beer (Stella Artois, Jupiler, Blanche de Hoegarden, Kriek, Rodenbach, Leffe Blonde) and 50+ bottled Belgian beer. Most trappists are available. Original beer glasses. Children and dogs welcome.
