Ramona's first (in recent times) brewery who now also operates a tap room in San Diego. The location is along Main Street, old Ramona where time seems stopped, nestled next to a butcher and other assorted shops. The place sits a few dozen (maybe) and has friendly staff serving a variety of sizes for their house beers. While they serve no food per se, they do have bags of chips. Alternatively, bring in your own food. The beers are average to good.

Un joyau qui n’est pas encore apprécié à sa juste valeur. Les anciens styles explorés sont presque à coup sûr succulents et étoffés. Les proprios dégagent une énergie qui transparait dans chaque couche de la brasserie.

After stopping in Julian we took the other way back down the mountain to go into San Diego and went through Ramona. Of course it’s no coincidence that there is a brewery here. It’s right on Main like everything in Ramona. This brewery is a small brewery in a nondescript shopping center and the sign is pretty small so it’s possible that you could drive right by it if you aren’t paying attention. Inside you’ll find a bar and around the side of the cold box you’ll find some tables. The brewing system is hidden in a small room behind the cold box. The fermenters appear to be about 7 bbl but the actual brewery is a very small set up. It would explain why they have so many beers on tap (because they only make a little bit and have to keep brewing to have something on tap).

During my visit they had 10 beers on tap. The bartender set us up with a taster of each which was conveniently two flights. Actually one of the ten beers was a rootbeer. I wasn’t a fan of most of the beers. A couple of them had some serious green apple flavor going on. They had a Berliner that wasn’t too bad. They also had an "east India porter" which was a collaboration between them and Stone along with Ron Pattinson.

Over all it’s kind of a forgettable place. The beers aren’t great and it’s just another tasting room, not to mention it’s in Ramona. Some day I’ll get back up to Julian so I may stop back in here but this isn’t going to be a regular stop for me.

A hidden gem. 1 BBL brewhouse located in Ramona. In a small shopping center with (of all things) a Thai restaurant, a hookah lounge and a butcher. Staff is always friendly and they seem to have a decent local crowd. That said, it’s clear this place hasn’t caught on in the beer geek world. Rarely is this brewery mentioned in write ups or in social media. The beers have an an old world vibe, and come from a distinctly European bloodline. Here you will find an altbier, a Berliner Weiss, a porter brewed with Brettanomyces, and a smoked wheat that is fanfreakingtastic. You will find no IPAs, no IIPAs, no barley wines. This is the anti San Diego brewery. And it’s good.
