Wow definitely the coolest looking place I have ever had a beer at. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the beer. They had a pale ale, oatmeal stout, trippel, doppelbock, wheat and a dunkel on tap. Food was excellent, though a tad on the pricey side. An awesome atmosphere, decent beer, good service = an awesome place that I will be returning to.
Gorgeous site, probably better on the inside than without (certainly don’t have to hear the hum of the high-tension wires that dominates this avoidable area). Service was quite good (probably the best I’ve had in two or three years) and very quick despite the crowd. Seems like a very merch-forward ‘scene’ restaurant, as if the brewing is fundamentally important but still doesn’t get as much energy as it should. Sat at the bar with an obstructed view, felt like an Islanders fan. Boothed seats are better for the view, vaulted and long enough, reminded of something in the vein of a Munich beer hall or Oktoberfest tent. Would love to come back just for the atmosphere and food, my spicy Italian sausage pierogis were just right. Beer a little less so, but still solid. Even if I don’t love the beers (and it’s still too early to tell), I’d still recommend this as a stop in wider Western PA, even as a designated driver. [2017.05.23: 90]
Visited here for dinner in late September ’16 while in the area for business. Amazing interior, really kept the feel of an old church. I love the effect of the altar area bathed in blue with the brewing equipment. I sat at the huge bar that runs almost the entire length of the place. Quick, attentive service. Have about a dozen of their beers on tap, the three I had were pretty solid, all true to style. Food was reasonably priced and pretty decent. I had bratwurst with Pierogies for an appetizer. I was only in Pittsburgh one night, and this is the one place I wanted to make sure I visited - glad I did!.
A sight to behold and an experience you need to have if you’re in Pittsburgh. Keeping the original stain glass from the church was a very nice tough. I tried three beers: two about average, one above average. Bonus points for properly cooking my buffalo burger to order.
For the location, a+ it was just a beautiful place with so much of the original church architecture and design left over. were were sitting in pews drinking beer facing an alter where the brew-house now lives. pretty amazing. The beers were okay, staff seemed a bit overwhelmed by our presence (group of 15) but I think the food was like really freaking good. top-notch quality of food and the beers were worth trying but not worth a growler fill. maybe that’ll change but this place has potential.
Stunning location, probably the best church brewery I have ever been to. Service was good, but we were sitting with the brewer so things were likely better than normal. Selection was decent and flights were available. Food was solid. The beer was OK.
What an amazing place. In an old church, of course, with the brewhouse set up on the altar. Long bar off to one side. Great service, very attentive, and patient in explaining their beers despite being very busy. Food was delicious and varied. Beers were all very solid. A must-stop while in Pittsburgh.
I loved this place. They had 7 beers on tap, 4 regulars, and 3 newbies, which they change up often. I liked all but one. The baby Kale salad I had was the best meal I had in ten days on the road. If you’re going to P-burg, and like cool places, good beer, and good food, give this place a try!
