CK is the hot place in town. Just always stupid crowded even early Monday evenings. What!? Come here on Friday or Saturday night and you can forget about it. It is insanely packed. OMG. But if you know a few people and are polite, you can get your drinks very quickly no matter the crowd. Selection is so big itís a little terrifying. But if you really dig deep into the bottle list- its extensive but most of the beers are expensive and mediocre. This is a place that could really throw itís weight around to get better beers like Port/LA, FFF, Surly, New Glarus, RR, Struise, De Molen. Sadly, almost all the exclusive beers are exclusive for a reason: they suck. There is a huge emphasis on Italian craft beers, which are mad expensive and usually suck. Food is insanely good, but you pay for it.

**UPDATE** Iíve warmed to this place over the past year for a number of reasons. One, though they donít have happy hour like Paradiso, you can always get tasters of whatís on tap for a pretty good deal. Usually around $3. Two, they have kept the same staff for a long time. Iíve made friends with a lot of them and itís nice to know someone behind the bar when it gets mad crowded, which is almost always the case. Three, they do clean their tap lines meticulously and staff labors all day doing this detailed necessity. Four, they have been throwing their new found fame around to get lots of exclusive beers. Now Struise and De Molen is quite common and even Cantillon is doing an event here. Iím very proud to have CK as a sort of local bar and think the staff is top notch. Without a doubt, the premier beer bar in DC if lacking the homey, relaxed atmosphere of Paradiso.

Up a dark set of stairs into a slightly less dark second floor, but still so poorly lit that it took a while to be able to see well enough. (Maybe the slow service is intentional to allow your eyes time to adjust?) The bar is crowded on a Saturday in the middle of February at about 5 or 6 PM. I manage to grab one of the lone bar seats and begin the waiting game. I get passed over by 3 separate people behind the bar before a fourth (the barback) pours me a water and brings me a menu. But he canít serve anything, so the waiting game continues. I wait for about ten minutes, as a new couple who comes in after me and sits down next to me gets served right away. I finally get in an order for a couple of 4oz pours and a $16 personal pizza (more later). That is a nice thing in regards to their sizable beer list, they do offer smaller pours, albeit it mostly in the $1/oz range. I get my beers, and not too long after my $16 pizza that serves one. Itís doughy and slightly undercooked. This is a disappointment. The beers are fine, and eventually after some flagging, I get a few more pours. Service was very lacking, and Iíd go a good chunk of time with no attention from the three bartenders, then one would see to me, and the other two would quickly follow. Seems like there could be a better way of organizing that, perhaps a section of the bar each instead of all of them basically making the rounds through the place. Iím glad I went, but if thatís what the hype is all about, Iím certainly in no hurry to get back. Prices are high, service was lacking, food was poor.

Stopped in for dinner and beers with a colleague, finally got work to send me to DC this was only psot i had time to hit up this time. Nice decor friendly staff, tons of beers on tap and bottle list is apparently huge although i didnít peruse. when i was there lots of Virginia and Maryland beers and some DC Brau variants on cask. i like you can get small pours for pretty cheap (veruss manhattan this place is a bargain). quite enjoyable

Visited here a few times after work and itís always packed - Yuppies, beer nerds, you name it. A ridiculous number of taps and bottles makes for great drinking. Prices are slightly pricier given the prime location. Service is a bit slow given there are only about 3 bartenders and way too many people at one time. Includes booths and counter seating otherwise youíll have to stand. Due to the number of people, cleanliness sometimes seems to be a problem - spilt beer and food all over the place. But what makes this place stand out is probably the beer, the number of gems they have on the tap list sometimes are ridiculous for such a place out in DC. Only second issue is that these beers run out very fast. I once visited for a beer that was tapped at 4 pm and already sold out likely within the hour.

Diverse tap list - some gems if nothing crazy on the day we visited. Both tap and bottle list significantly overpriced. Had 4 beers on tap, and some food. Couldnít justify the bottle markups unless there was a whale on there, which there was not. Slowish but friendly service.

A world class beer bar. The bar is upstairs in a some what narrow spot. The front and one side of the back is open seating and a good sized bar is on the right wall. A few non-invasive TVs had sports on. Our server was prompt and very knowledgeable about the menu (both beer and food). The selection is world class and small pours are available. The wings were amazing as well. A world class beer bar!
