Atmosperic bar. Can get absolutely rammed, so get in early and bag one of the booths. Sam Smiths beers at OK prices

Located between Holborn and Chancery Lane tube stations, this pub has plenty of old world charm, medieval in design with its heavy use of wood panelling and rafters, it’s certainly a place to come and enjoy a drink in the ambiance of the building. Plenty do and it was very busy on my visit, with only Sam Smiths brews available given they have currently have this pub.

Visited on a Friday evening, very busy and not easy to get to the bar, get served, or seated. The place itself is very impressive inside and one I will return too when it’s less busy. Beers available were good but what we had didn’t stand out. Next time maybe...

Another stunning pub, resembling an old Tudor guild hall. Lots of dark wood and roaring fire. Like the Princess Louise, the complete lineup of Sam Smith’s products. Nice touch was the closed off booths down the side.

Worth coming to for the old school decor, even if you don’t like Sam Smith’s. Luckily I don’t mind their beers. Highlight of my last visit was a friend discovering that braziers are hot if you perch on them. Can get a bit busy and touristy, unsurprisingly.

Historic pub: Long wooden floored, high ceilinged room with many booths down one side for cosy or raucous groups. Good selection of Samuel Smith beers and other drinks.

We visited here on Thursday 17th March 2016, we being me, Dad and Barry. This is another place that I had been to before and quite frequently many years ago with Loz. It’s a 7-8 minutes stroll from Craft Clerkenwell to here and just 2-3 mins from The Penderel Oak. It’s on High Holborn and so is well connected transport wise with Chancery Lane underground just a couple of minutes or two walk and lots of buses plying there way along here. This is a most attractive place it always reminds me of an old baronial hall, I think a touch Germanic also, lots of old dark wood, a the right time of day this is a very atmospheric place but not today when it was heaving. We didn’t hang around for long, beer choice is Sam Smiths so you know it’s limited choice. A great place for a historic pub crawl.

Wow what an amazingly cool bar, I feel like I am in the church of beer. Service was generic no idea about our stuff, lots of euro students but prices were good and the atmosphere fantastic. Most beautiful pub I visited. Bonus Samuel Smith Old Brewery Bitter served out of oak casks. Great selection of Sam Smith at good prices. Simply beautiful place, I am glad I stumbled on it.

An attractive pub oozing olde worlde charm - there’s a drinking corridor leading to wood panelled rooms, little private booths in the main bar, a lofty roof space reminiscent of a Tudor banqueting hall and, on a ledge high above the bar, a collection of large wooden barrels. Unfortunately the beer choice is limited (it’s a Sam Smith’s pub) and the service can be painfully slow but it’s worth a visit just to see the place. (Last visited 25 October 2014).
