Definitely a local in a really nice part of town. Service was superb, no half pints or samplers, so they just made something up for me and charged me a pint. Selection was funny. Bud, Pacifico and Rochefort all side by side. Surprisingly a few I hadn’t had and some great old stuff that doesn’t sell well. Food was great. Overall a great stop if you are in the area.

Last stop of the night unless you count the Taco Bell right before getting back on the bridge to head back into New Orleans. This was another potential food stop that was visited after the kitchen had closed. That’s a shame as I was hungry, obviously if I decided to get Taco Bell right after (actually I like Taco Bell). Instead I filled my stomach with Orval. Orval is an awesome choice at a bar and I’ll tell you why: it doesn’t move, and thus has a higher chance of being at it’s peak age (18-24 months). This one was about 16 months old, so pretty close. Now, if you decide that you don’t want an Orval there are plenty of taps to choose from. I think that the tap list is less impressive than the bottle list but that’s another common theme in LA. Abita, Tin Roof, St Arnold, and New Belgium made up the majority of the tap list. They also had one of the beers from one of the breweries north of the lake called Chafunkta. If I hadn’t tried both of their offerings at Barley Oak I might have ordered a glass here.

Being late on a Wednesday night it was kind of dead here but the bartender was friendly and the one other customer was as well. Also, its in a quiet little town so parking is easy. Nice place. If I lived in the area I would stop in for trivia nights.

Cool old building in downtown Covington. Decent tap and bottle selection, mostly macros but a nice stock of all the Abitas, some German taps, and a Bear Republic IPA. Good food and service.

Heluva beer bar for a small town in Louisiana. 32 taps and about 60 other beers in bottles. Bartenders use glasses approporate for the beer ordered. They have frequent keep the glass specials (I’ve got a lovely set of Sella Artois glasses as a result of this!) The place has a varied food menu. Burgers are absolutely fantastic. The first time I went there, the bartender told me: Our chef’s ability with fish is the best kept secret in Louisiana. She was not kidding. I ordered the catch of the day (drum, that day) and it was some of the most perfectly prepared fish I’ve ever eaten! Hours are 11:00 AM - till. Kitchen is open till 9:00 PM and sometimes later. Kids are welcome until 10:00 PM then its over 21 only.
