Located within walking distance of some other solid places. Standard old-school downtown brewpub vibe, with a definite attempt at an English pub vibe. I had just eaten, so I didn’t try the food. Solid service... bartender was friendly, helpful, and amply handling a decent crowd. Ordered a flight of 8 for $17. Kinda steep for the quality. Bartender was happy to give me decent sizes samples of the other 2 beers on tap. They also offer a 3 beer flight which is good for locals just wanting to try the seasonals. Drinking here is like drinking at two different breweries. This is the kind of place that says "here’s our core beers and a few rotating seasonals." The core beers were decently executed, but kinda boring. OTOH, the seasonals were interesting, inventive, and well executed. English DIPA, California Common and a quite nice guava Saison. If they pay a little more attention to the core beers it would be beneficial. Some decent deals on wings and pints when I was there, but seems pretty pricy otherwise. Overall worth a stop if you’re in Des Moines.
stopped in as part a bit to epic beer tour of Des Moines. Lovely old building friendlt staff cool looking mug club. the beers weren’t that good or extensive but they charged my phone behind bar so i stayed for 3.
Nestled downtown in a great historic building, this place screams character. Service is great, they have lots of local taps and they know how to make you feel welcome. The food is good and well priced, the only problem with the place is the very safe and pedestrian beer.
I stopped in about noon on a Friday. Plenty of tables and bars stools available. Very nice looking interior with a small brewing operation tucked into the corner. 8 of their own beers on tap, 2 seasonals. Great service at the bar. 8 tasters was about $17 or so. The food was a little on the pricey side, I didn’t eat. Pretty cool place, I would come here again when in town.
Wish the offerings matched the excellence of the ambiance of the great old building this is in. It’s really a pretty sweet spot, well laid out and everything inside. But the beers are mediocre and the food is just not very good.
Located in downtown Des Moines just a few blocks down from the capital building. The brewpub has a restaurant side that bright and cheery and a pub side that has a number of tv’s. They had 8 on tap with the hefe being a pleasant surprise. They have a few bottles but they’re mainly the BMC variety. The service was pleasant which is what I’ve come to expect in Iowa.
