Two level place, downstairs has the bar with a monstrous row of taps. Upstairs is for sitting, chilling, gathering. When I asked what sours they had on, it took staff 10 minutes to go through the entire list. Some of those were US sours that are hard to find back home. Staff had great recommendations, and were generous with the samples. Food is limited to crisps and scotch eggs. A must-visit while in London.

South of Clerkenwell Road roughly where St Peter’s Italian Church is located. This Craft Beer Company pub is in a traditional hostelry on a corner, with a long bar against its side wall sporting an impressive long row of cask ales, followed by an equally impressive long row of keg ales, so there’s never going to a shortage of choice if you come here. It was busy on the Tuesday night I was there.

Visited on numerous occasions the original CBC has a great cask and keg list. Plenty of unusual beers and tap takeovers. Can get busy once the work crowd kick out, room upstairs quite often to relax. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Great place.

A nice good sized pub with a large bar. Built for geeks with impressive service, tap list, bottle list and 1/3 pints. Bottle selection is insane, but so are prices, a must.

A welcome new addition to the burgeoning London beer scene, the Craft Beer Co. is an old fashioned street corner pub which has been knocked through although it retains some of its original features such as the magnificent hexagonal mirror panelled ceiling. It was very busy when we visited on a Saturday evening during the RBESG and no wonder as the beer range is superb and the service excellent. It was the first time I’d seen Tom in his new role as manager of the pub. He was in his element and doing a great job.

Update: Three years later and the Craft Beer Co. is still going strong, with several more pubs around town. The service is friendly and the beer selection remains very good indeed. Ratebeerians are always welcome and Tom has made the upstairs room available for us on many occasions, most recently for the Grand Tasting (part 2) during the RBESG 2014. (Last visited 10 August 2014).

We (me and Loz) visited here on 23rd July 2011 at Tom and Ian’s birthday bash. I have to say this is one cracking little venue, the bar probably runs two thirds of the length of the pub and is jam packed with handpumps and taps I never counted them all but it would be a brave man indeed who even tries to tackle all of the handpump selection, something like thirteen I think/ The service was superb, staff going to great measures to deliver your beer to you with a smile, ensuring the glass was spotless (no drips down the side) in fact just everything about the service was great, I couldn’t fault it at all. The beer selection was superb, you really need to do a two nighter before you could really say that you’ve made a dent in the selection, I hadn’t even the time to look at the bottled beers but something tells me that the selection of those will be stellar. Great building with a quite some history and as Mes informed me was quite close to some heavy Lufftwaffe bombing in WWII which explained the slight jauntiness of some of the windows apparently. In short this is the new must go to place in London and probably leapfrogs very high up on my favourite places as well with a score like this.

We have been 3 times now and on each occasion it has been a different atmosphere, ranging from the cool and relaxed on a Saturday afternoon to manic and crammed on a Friday night. It’s all about beer in here and what a selection they have, there is something for everyone. Tom has a particularly good touch in selecting the Brewers he likes to show and I have not had a beer I haven’t appreciated so far. It’s not for everyone, particularly if you are looking for tradition, but this is a major development in the British Pub scene and if the crowds last night are anything to go by, it will be a roaring success.

Have popped by once a month or so since it opened in summer ’11. Great selection on both tap and cask, backed up by a solid bottle range. Staff always knowledgeable and friendly. Cask ales are micro breweries from around the UK, tap will be a mix of Scando’s, US, UK and the odd Eureopean offering. Food is limited to pork pies and scotch eggs. Decent artisanal examples but I wish they would do a little more in the way of food to help soak up the beery goodness! (I understand the kitchen was sacrificed for the gents on ground level). Food rating reflects choice, not quality! My last visit was on 11/08/12 and I sampled beers from Kernel, Westbrook, southern Tier and Farmers Cabinet on tap and a Fyne Ales on cask. Look up at the ceiling downstairs and wave! I must have been here half a dozen times before I did!

Easily one of the best pubs in London, and many would say THE best. The range of beers is without peer. The place itself is quite lovely. The staff knows their stuff and the manager rocks! A lot of the beers are on the pricey side (cask ales start at £3.40) but it comes with the territory, I suppose. For me this pub is top three in London.
