Outside and in, the Criterion looks a bit like a working menís club but itís actually OK, despite the sports screens showing football in the bar. Itís not usually open on Sundays but we were lucky because one area, the Grist Room, was being used for the last day of Daveís Comedy Festival so the main bar was open as well. According to the leaflets on the table, the comedy club was featuring Joanna Neary, a Joyce Grenfell of our age! The beer list was reasonable - six casks and a couple of keg beers served in two thirds measures.

Visited February 2016 with beery friends. Old style twinroomed pub. Cosy and a lively, friendly atmosphere. Friendly staff. Not the biggest beer range on tap or bottle. Beers in good condition and some only sold as 2/3 pints. They have WiFi with password.
Excellent traditional pub. Tired, worn and loved. The beer selection isnít the largest but what they do have is beyond reproach. For cask, the choice is split between more traditional brewers (Burton Bridge, Adnams) and more experimental ones (Thornbridge, Charnwood); expect local breweries to feature but not overtake. A handful of craft on keg as well. The bottle selection is a tickersí paradise, with the odd hard-to-get country (Windhoek Lager anyone?) alongside beer royalty such as Gulden Draak. So, this is a resounding yes from me.
Good pub with a decent selection of ales, drank a Pale Ale from Kelham Island and very tasty it was too. Engaged in conversation with a couple of locals and left feeling very satisfied. Worth checking out.
We have visited this a few times on our visits to Leicester as it is on the must visit list. Generally we prefer the small room on the left if it isnít too full. It is in a slightly seedier part of town but really friendly when inside. Really good assortment of beers and I havenít been through the bottles yet. Very good. Re Visit March í14. Right hand bar. The beer range has got even better now, plenty to go at all in good nick, good atmosphere, friendly and welcoming apart from if you arrive early, it doesnít open until 12. The beer garden is a bit of a disgrace, otherwise excellent.
I might have visited during a day when the selection was off its usual quality but there was not much here. The service was friendly enough and it was not like you were stuck drinking Carling or Extra Cold Guinness. Normally Iím told they have a few more regional beers on cask. The outside beer garden is an odd arrangement squeezed onto the sidewalk but the inside does not have much more ambiance. This is a typical English pub in the heart of the city. Give it an hour or so then decide whether to move on to the next spot.
Close to the Universities this mid 20th century bar is in a working mans club style. It has two small rooms and does its best to massage the the entertainment requirements of the students with frequent gigs, quizzes, comedy and games nights, practically every night. As far as drinking goes thereís a mix of ale and lager, but a decent selection of both. Can get busy early evening.
Decent ambiance. Excellent pizza. Good selection of ales. Prices are reasonable. Service is average to poor. The landlord is incredibly rude. Good music on the jukebox. The beers have been in poor condition the last 9/10 times. Will not be returning until cellermanship improves.
Looks dingy from the outside. In fact I passed it dozens of times, saw the sign outside "Selection of Foreign beers" assumed they meant they had Stella and Kronenbourg.
Saw it on here, and rushed to visit. Wasnít dissapointed. Theyíre got a fantastic selection. Good prices, and donít mind waiting while you spend 5 minutes deciding what you want to drink.
An excellent, warm two-main room pub with an excellent range of beers, hypothetically always including an Oakham. The casual belgian interesting draught may also make an appearance (Saison Dupont was there) and a fair few bottles for Leicester: Nothing very rare, but certainly a welcome addition. Had a pretty good Chili con Carne there. Certainly a must in leicester, even if you just spend a few hours in the city.
