I have mixed feelings about this place - excellent selection of beers and a pretty nice vibe. Just the right side of trendy, with some random mismatched furniture etc, nice high ceilings and a big beer garden. But overpriced - pint of Doombar for £4.40?? Guinness for £4.50? If all the beer was reduced by 15% it would be a great place.

This pub was off my radar, and I wouldn’t have come here except a) the rugby was on and b) it was convenient for myself and my friend to meet. On paper, it’s a good selection: 6 cask, a handful of keg and some nice craft bottles. The reality is slightly different though: while the cask were from mostly London brewers, the selection wasn’t exactly inspired (they were tired recipes served far too warm), and the keg was confined to more ubiquitous beers such as Brooklyn Lager and Siren Undercurrent (they’d just run out of Lupuloid). It was busy (but not <that> busy), and staff seemed disinterested I hate to say. Not my sort of place, especially in London and double especially in Shoreditch, although it would be a standout in a remote Norfolk village.

We visited here on Saturday 8th October 2016. We’d just done a walk around the Clerkenwell area and finished up at Old Street Underground and then walked onto here. Its easy enough to find as its close to the row of containers that house loads of little businesses in this part of Shoreditch. Its quite an attractive building from the outside with the original Truman embossed stonework visible on the facade.

Inside its quite tidy, wooden floors, reasonably roomy, the bar is on the RH side as you enter. Beer choice was fine without being too exciting some easy to get beers from Dark Star and Siren and a few others some from local outfits, but not really an enthralling selection. It was quiet when we arrived, staff were over to us straight away, however we both felt that the floor could have done with a quick mop as it smelt of stale beer. I am not sure that I would rush here again, I may pop my head in to see what they’ve got on if walking past though.

Nice open floor and bar area as you walk in with a big beer garden out back. Was here on a Friday arvo, early mind you, and it wasn’t too packed out. Selection ranges from pressure drop to kernel to sharps to Guinness. Quite diverse and some solid stuff. Service was really quite slow considering there was only two of us at the bar. Cool place bordering between trendy and city vibed but not somewhere I would go out of my way for. A decent shout

Anyplace that serves two thornbridge beers is good for me. Staff dont know anything about beer but with the bottles in the back, draft and cask, I was impressed. Nice crowded atmosphere with a good beer garden. In this area, it’s one of the best.
