Visited on 12th February 2017. Situated under the arches of the viaduct and with the Stockport brewery across the road and about 10 mins from the station. This is a lovely old pub, a multitude of rooms surround the bar, a good range of cask ales on tap with Oakham and local brewers featuring. Quality was decent, prices good and service good too. A really nice old boozer.

We (me, Loz, Lynn and Barry) visited here on Saturday 18th February 2017. This is located just a short walk from the railway station and just down the hill from the Magnet Freehouse though just off that road and almost under the viaduct adjacent to a roundabout. Its an attractive old Boddingtons pub decorated in blue and white on the outside with etched windows

Inside this is a large place with a multitude of rooms and a centrally located bar, I think that there are about five rooms that I counted. The inside must be listed, in fact the the pub itself must be listed, itís got wonderful interior, a mixture of tiled and wooden floors and lots of original features

This was a Good Beer Guide regular and beer choice was very good albeit from what I noticed solely cask, we had beers from Oakham, Pictish, Bridgehouse etc and all were in good nick. There were quite a few folk in here, service was friendly and swift. It would be a nailed on certainty for a regular on a crawl for me. Unfortunately no Stockport beers were available during our visit.

Beautiful building inside and out, right under the viaduct north of the station. Inside there are at least four separate rooms, stuffed with leather but not stuffy. They brew their own beer, just across the road, both brewery and pub owned by the same guy. So, Iíll change this to a brewery tap. Two of their beers on offer, both very tasty, and plenty of guests. Helpful staff. Quiet locals. A must-visit while in the area.

Arguably still the best pub in Stockport for cask ale, the selection is nearly always interesting and quality usually spot on. A proper old fashioned drinking establishment that continues to impress me.

Great freehouse pub with 11 operating hand-pumps for well-kept cask ales and another four serving ciders. Three ales from the local Stockport Brewing Company. Five snugs and rooms served by a rather small public bar. Old fashion outlook, friendly and cozy. Knowledgeable, attentive service. Our pub food was just alright. About ten minutesí walk from the railway station, located under the huge Stockport viaduct (visited 03.02.2015).

Dwarfed by the looming arches of Stockport viaduct, the unlikely chimneys of The Crown: an absolute jewel and a pub of national importance. Visited on 3 separate occasions on my last visit (before and after Nuneatonís defeat at Edgeley Park, 02/02/13). Bare-boarded front bar populated by aficionados, garrulous regulars, a few County on matchdays (10min walk up hill). Beyond, the soporific roaring hearth in the leather-upholstered back room; leaden windows to squint incredulously at the vertiginous red brick arches; stacks of papers, various other nooks and antechambers. But most importantly, the ale; a bristling bank of handpumps dispensing immaculately conditioned offerings from the likes of Pictish, Mallinsonís, Oakham, Thornbridge and Abbeydale. Did I mention itís dirt cheap? You know all you need to know. Check it out.

Excellent multi-roomed pub close to the railway and bus stations. Comfortable and with a relaxed atmosphere this is always a must visit when in Stockport. Superb range of beers in immaculate condition. Good value for money with many in the £2-2.50 range. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and never left waiting long unless itís absolutely rammed. Recently (2009, I think) runner-up in CAMRAís national Pub of the Year.

Lovely pub located just beneath the arches of the impressive railway viaduct with views over a roundabout and a car tire firm. A fairly small building with a small room by the bar and a couple of rooms behind and to the left of the bar. Brilliant selection of cask ales: 13 or 14 handpumps with perfectly conditioned beers from small breweries from across Britain. Good pub food as well. Friendly and efficient staff with a good idea about what theyíre serving. An excellent little gem. Well worth an afternoon trip from Manchester, itís only 10-15 minutes by train.

We love this place. Itís not far from my mum and dadís house so we are here regularly when we are back in Manchester. Excellent cask selection with a chalkboard list. Never had anything other than superbly conditioned beer here. Itís a really cosy place where you can almost always find a seat and a real regulars pub. The staff and locals are friendly and generally very knowledgable and you can often hear lots of geeky beer talk. Picked up loads of scoops here and the list changes constantly. If you are in Manchester itís well worth the 15 minute journey on the train and itís only a 5 minute walk down the hill from the station. A must visit.

Quite often call in here on the way back from Manchester trips as itís on the way back home on the train. Best ale pub in Stockport by some stretch in my opinion. The selection is very good, they make sure thereís always a mild on and they also support their local brewers well. Always busy in the evenings and theyíve sometimes had live bands playing outside in the courtyard during the Summer months.
