(Visited 07/2009): This Crown Liquors location is situated on Hwy 31 in a strip mall and is not too far off I-65. Parking is plentiful.
The inside is not spacious but not cramped either. The beer is located in the left rear of the store both on shelves and in coolers. Mixed sixers are available, and the shelves are segregated by region.
The selection is good. Lots of regional brews from Three Floyds, Mad Anthony and other Indiana brewers plus Rogue, Stone, Bell’s, Great Lakes and others. As for imports they have a decent selection of Belgians primarily, plus some Mikkeller and other goodies.
Service here was good. I was asked if I was looking for anything in particular, and the guy who rang me up informed me about a festival the next weekend and chatted with me about the beers I purchased.
Overall this Crown is worth checking out, as probably all of them are.
I had planned to go to another Crown Liquors while I was in town as I’d never visited the chain but this one was conveniently close to my hotel. There is an absolutely massive selection of beer to be had, sort of like Kahn’s, but the added bonus is that everything is available in singles. If you mention Ratebeer.com, there is a 10% discount. I scored some gems like Bells 25th anniversary ale and Bells batch 9000. The downside of this store is that most of the stock is ancient. Nearly anything that had a date stamp on it was way out of date so I passed on many otherwise appealing IPA and IIPA’s. The selection is just so sheerly huge that there will still be good options where freshness is not of concern. Good prices on most of the beer too.
Smallish stand alone store in the parking lot of larger anchor stores. Really solid selection of midwestern beers including 3F, Founders, New Holland, Dark Horse, Goose Island and others along with other American craft beers (the Bruery, etc) and a strong Belgian and European section (nice selection of Indiana and local craft beer as well). Some beers were sold in six packs and singles while others just in the bombers or 750ml bottles. Some beer sold warm and cold. Talked briefly to the staff, and they seemed passionate about bringing in excellent beer. Definitely worth a stop when in the area.
Did not have too many problems finding this place even though it’s on a busy highway. The person behind the counter was friendly but felt like he was watching every move I made, like I was going to steal something. Selection wasn’t nearly as good as Parti-Pak Liquors down the street. Prices were higher than I expected. I found a very nice bottle of beer for $34.99 but found it at another place for $5 less. I doubt if go back to this place as I can find better service and quantity at other stores.
A treasure chest in central Indiana....Staff is great.....
A hidden jewel, not much to see or expect from the outside or at first glance walking in....
HOWEVER.....pound for pound and by the square foot...this place is amazing.
Vast variety.....singles, sample sixes, imports, locals....found 2 different Geuze....incredible for this area....beer rating notes on shelf on special items....Tasting/Gatherings fridays at 5pm.....pricing seems better than fair....
awesome little hideaway! Go there!

Ben is really helping to put this store on the craft beer map. Getting a great selection of beer, getting beer minded people behind the counter, and starting to foster a good beer culture is a lot of work, but Ben is doing things the right way, and it is really starting to show. Parti Pak now has some real competition, and I find myself stopping at Crown much more than Pak. You will not be let down at this store.
Just an update: The store is getting better than ever. Ben is really hitting it out of the park and has gotten his store into elite status for Indy. I have been visiting this Crown for a LONG time, and in years past it was just because they sold so little craft beer, that I could still find Three Floyds Gumball Head bombers and Xtra Mild on the shelves. Now I go there because of the selection, prices, and great management.
I have been to this store several times for beer. I looked over their selection of micro brews and thought they had a pretty good selection. I had the privilege to visit Party Pak Liquors on East Stop 11 this week. After reading the previous review made me want to state that Crown Liquors #6 does not hold a candle to Pak. As soon as they carry anywhere close to the 2100 different types of beers at Party Pak I might shop here.
store has great selection of fresh and new release beers. staff is great, very friendly, and have a vast amount of knowledge. free beer tastings every friday night are a super bonus. selection is clean, organized, and doesnt show signs of age like other locations in the area and customer satisfatcion is A+. check this store out first and you wont be disappointed. the NUMBER of beer does not show the quality of the store, but this place is a hit no matter where you look!
