Visited 25/08/17. I’ve walked past this pub plenty of times and at first suspected it was some sort of private club or something. I.e. I could see that it was some sort of pub type place but no ’open’ signs or anything. There was actually one this day so perhaps just always walked past before it was open. Interesting entrance. You go in via the old stable entrance, rather than a front door (there’s a front fire exit only). I turned into the first door on the left. This was a small lounge area with 5 - 6 tables. No staff at the bar. I could see throught the bar that there was a larger area to the rear so tried my luck. It appeared to that the second door on the left goes into a small nook, with seemingly no way into the main space, which is presumabky accesable via the rear garden. As per the first review, a beggar exited the garden and swore at me. Nice. The garden was busy being a nice summer day, but I returnd to the front lounge. There were two tables of regulars - toffs going on about their mates Chutney and Chivers. Then a couple of tourists, equally as confused by the layout and lack of bar staff as I was. However it turned out that there were only two barstaff on who were changing a keg They turned out to be friendly. Not as fancy as some Sam Smiths put still a nice trad building and interior. Niote the widest array of their beers on. However would drop in again if I wanted a quiet pint and was passing.

Another bar. Went after, so the place was not serving food, so had to move on.

The Crown’s a small Sam Smiths pub located between Holborn and Tottenham Court Road. I often prefer this venue to the Princess Louise as it’s much quieter. The ambiance is laid-back and a bit scruffy. This pub has not received the beautiful refurbishment work that many Sam Smiths pubs in the capital have. The service is what you’d expect. The selection features all the usual suspects. The food’s cheap and not particularly satisfying. One of the nice things about this place is the patio seating area, a pretty rare feature for a pub in central London. Alas, I can’t recall a single time I’ve sat outside and not been harassed for change by panhandlers! Ah, the joys of Zone 1!
