A nice Pub with a good selection of both keg and cask. Plenty to choose from and good variety of good producers. The food was quite good as well.
There is a nice garden space out back. The pub itself is noisy even with a few people in it as it seems the sounds bounces off the high walls.
This is a nice place to meet up with friends for bring the partner out for dinner.
Great place for all round experience, for solo drinkers, couples and larger groups. Forward thinking keg and cask line-up, varied and fairly rare bottle list, decent spirits and wines, and solid food selection. Nice open vibe, with lovely garden out the back. A top local pub, that’s well worth the trip into the leafy, well-heeled residential area behind Angel station. Extra points for doing all beers in third-pint measures (tickers, take note). Big fan.
Visited the 27th Ocotober 2015 on the evening. Cosy modern place with a good selection on tap, on cask nothing was available but they have 6 cask machines... Only cider was available and that’s really strange. The bottle seleciton is nice with fair price. Serivce is ok but not amazing. Ambiance is noisy but ok. I expected a better place when you compare the other ratebeer place around... I need to go back to have a second point of view.
Really nice place. Was there shortly after opening. Nice tap selection, with lots of variety and styles. Nice that they offer 1/3s as well. Good food too. Definitely a place to check out if you’re around the Angel/Islington area.
Update: In the last three months (to 25 Feb 2015) the handling of the casks has fallen off a cliff here. They are apparently having issues with their line cleaner; the result is that most of their cask beers taste like chemicals, solvent...line cleaner. It’s a damn shame, really, as they are getting good beers on cask and then destroying them. Definitely not fair to the brewers. Also, the servers have not been aware of the issues with the casks when I return the beers. They agree with me that the beers taste off; but then the question is, who is doing the quality control? I really hope they fix this soon. It has gone on far too long. Previous score of 86 dropped down to 72.
Update: This place has really improved since opening (not that it was ever bad, mind). They are getting in a lot of beers not seen elsewhere in London, and their in-house brewery is now up and running. Quickly becoming one of my regular stops. (Original rating: 78. Revised up to 86.)
A very attractive pub with a solid range of beers. Something like six to eight casks and about 12 kegs. A few interesting things on tap (Camden, Sierra Nevada, Cotswold, Moor, Left Hand, Nogne O) though nothing that really blew me away. The bottle range has some rarities, including Sam Adams Infinium and stuff from Anchorage Brewing. Prices are decent, and you can order a 1/3 if you want, which is nice. They also have a very nicely laid out menu for all the beers, both draft and bottled, with prices. The pub itself is beautiful with plenty of indoor seating in addition to a few tables out front on the sidewalk and room out back in the garden. The food menu looked good but I didn’t eat on my visit. Apparently this place will have its own beers in the coming months, so I will look forward to checking back for that.
I don’t feel particularly well greeted when there’s tons of condensation all over all of the windows. Which were single-glazed, of course. If they’re not going to invest in double-glazing or ventilation, that tells me they’re not going to invest much in my comfort. It’s fairly simple inside, hard wooden benches and chairs, but not actually unpleasant - it’s a boozer. Was rather full when I went there on a Sunday night, so a bit noisy. Apparently, I’m scarier to the locals than the locals are to me, which I guess is a good thing. I liked the nice clear beer list - great for people who don’t like straining their eyes. Selection was very good, but I’m a little out of touch with the London scene, so don’t know if it stands out. Service was at least adequate, they weren’t going out of their way to assist, but it was a fairly busy night and I definitely have no complaints. One I wouldn’t mind revisitting if I’m in this side of town again. Wasn’t paying attention to the prices - it was cheaper than my usual foreign venue (Finland), and I didn’t care, I was on holiday and treating myself.
Pretty empty when we visited, but it was just after new year. Nice place and decent selection of their own stuff, other UK beers and imports. Food was good too. Like the fact that they do thirds. Decent bottle list too.
