Stopped in on my way up North and couldn’t be more pleased with the place. If there were a brewery like this every 50 or so miles across the country, we could end our reliance on antidepressants, fix the economy and possibly have world peace. The place is a modern looking factory type setting with tall ceilings and lots of light and air coming in through the open patio doors. Service was delightful and selection was truely impressive. I can’t wait to get back.
Visited for dinner on 06/06/09. The second stop of three during a trip to some of the Midwest’s most essential breweries. Located in downtown Grand Rapids, Founders might be my favorite brewery at the moment. The taplist was incredible. I sipped on Canadian Breakfast Stout, Barrel Aged Imperial Stout, KBS, and Barrel Aged Red’s Rye. They were all amazing. My wife enjoyed her Oatmeal Stout and loved the Cerise. The food was good (some beer cheese dip and a veggie sandwich), and the atmosphere was comfortable. The bar is huge, and there’s plenty of seating both indoors and outside. There was steady stream of locals stopping in to get their growlers filled. Take out bottles are refrigerated and decently priced. There’s also live music nearly every night of the week. Founders is a phenomenal brewery, and their taproom accentuates their craftsmanship. Grand Rapids was a great city to stay the night, and since it’s only 45 minutes north of Kalamazoo (Bell’s) it’s an ideal weekend getaway for beer enthusiasts. Simply put, Founders is a must.
I’ve been wanting to go to the new place for a while now and it is nice. Very long bar and restaurant area with a nice view of the brewing facilities. They have widescreens to show local sports and have some outdoor seating as well. I only noticed their own beers on tap which isn’t a bad thing since they brew some fine stuff. On a friday night we had to wait a while for the waitress to come to our table and then it took her a little while to come back but otherwise she was pleasant. We did not eat on here on this occasion. I enjoyed their KBS stout in a snifter that was at the proper temperature. Very tasty brew.
One of the guys from the brewery area was kind enough to give us a quick tour even though it was late at night and I think he wanted to go home. Great facilities! I live in the area and plan to go back soon. It is walking distance from Hopcat (also highly rated) so for a nice night of better beer, I suggest visit both.
Great place to come and hang out and get great value on great beers. In warm weather the patio is great to be on and there is smoking outside for those that do.
Tends to get a little loud in the afternoon and after work gets out. Plenty of live music if that’s your thing. If you come to Grand Rapids and don’t visit Founders you’ve missed out.
Visited this brewery several times during a stay in Grand Rapids. I really enjoyed the brewpub at this place. Came on a Friday and Saturday night and the place was pretty much packed - maybe 200 people or so. A large room, approximately 35’ x 120’. German style beer hall with high ceilings and a long bar. Noisy and full of beer lovers, lots of staff so you didn’t have to wait long. Had about 14 beers on tap, many unusual ones that are not bottled. Had an appetizer which was good. This is apparently a new location, according to my friend. I liked everything about it and the prices were pretty fair too. Compared to the usual places available to have a beer I felt this was outstanding. I wish we had something comparable in Iowa.

I love this place. Very large and open, but yet tons of places to sit. The food was great, beat only by the KBS. The beer here is amazing. Do not miss this place if you are in the grand rapids area. The parking is probably the worst about this place. However there is free parking on the street, so its better then being required to pay for parking.
I recommend the KBS.
Updated: 6/15/09. I had to come back to this rating and give them a few extra points on Service and Ambiance. Great atmosphere. I can’t wait to be in Grand Rapids again soon.
Real nice. Parking sucks if you get there on a busy day. Service is good. Good selection of beers on tap. Nice open atmosphere...Kind of train-station-like.
Revisited on 6/13/09 with more time on my hands. Like it quite a bit. Lots of staff to help..which is a plus. Fairly knowledgeable as well.
Made the trip to Founders back in October. What can you say. An awesome wide open taproom, with a cool view of the beer making goodies and all. Lots of wood and glass. The beer is first class,I love almost all of Founders brews, had 6 or 7 samples a couple of pints and a growler to go. The food was very good, deli style.Service was spotty, could have been better, but I’ll let it go and try again next time.Prices seemed pretty reasonable. I love Founders beer and would love to work there, not even for money, just beer.

Large building in an old warehouse. Much better than their old facility, which was in kind of a pretentious apartment/condo building. Open atmosphere, but the wood throughout the building makes it warm enough. Inviting for the hippie freaks, which most good brewpubs are. Nearly all their regular beers are on tap, plus a couple extras. Wish they had some more bottles for purchase. It appears people traveling from afar are dissappointed their is no reward for their travel. Personally I like the fact I do not have to live near them to get their brews, unlike ALL the other breweries that compete with Founders top offerings.(Three Floydds, etc.) Bells is about the only other good brewery you can also widely get their offerings without having to wait in a line wrapped around their dumpy little building and parking lot. So in the end, if you are looking for some place that you are special to have found, this is not it. If you want a place to get some fine craft beers, listen to some music, this pla
