I was here for RBSG 2010, and after a long flight and everything else, Founders was a VERY welcome sight. Beers were solid across the boards, and they were pouring both CBS and KBS, as well as Looking Glass, which is now one of my favorite IIPAs of all time! Sandwiches were huge and very flavourful, and my tab was shockingly low, coming from Canada. We got a great tour from the owner, which was great, and all the beers were served in appropriate glassware. Beer paradise. I will come back to Michigan again, largely to visit Founders again.
Stopped by on a Friday at 11:20 and this place was packed. By 11:45, people were waiting for tables and it sure isn’t small. Took 20+ min to get my flight of beers which pissed me off - other tables in other sections got lot better service than my dude. Towards the end, they were rotating servers and service picked up, but that 1st 1/2 hour is what I’m rating service on. There were out of my Brat sandwich (told me after I ordered) - strike 2. Lucky their beers (and they have brewery only) are pretty good. If my service was good and they told me my food order wasn’t available v. 10 min later, my rating would have been a lot higher.
Good time had by myself and family. Just happened to pull off the road on way from a wedding while heading back to Chicago and happened to be about a mile away. A bit busy and loud for my taste, but what is to be expected on a Sunday afternoon. That did not keep me from enjoying a good beer and a good sammich. Would have had a second beer, but I was mighty sleepy.
Now I wanna go back...

A trip to Grand Rapids must include a trip to Founders. Was pretty busy on Saturday afternoon. We walked from our hotel, and enjoyed beautiful downtown GR. Food tasted great, mostly sandwich selection, but very tasty. I will definitely visit again
This is my favorite place. Great selection, great food, great service, great atmosphere especially since the expansion, and it’s the first place I go when I visit Grand Rapids. Everyone looking for beer in Michigan must come to Founders.
After picking up our allotment of KBS and storing it in our hotel room, we came back for the beer. Since most of their beer is available almost anywhere, it was hard finding new beer to try. No space at the bar, which we expected. Sat at a table with a couple of locals. Service was friendly and prompt for how busy it was.
Loved the look and feel of this brewery/taproom. Able to see the brute tanks/fermenters through the glass while the pub area was all exposed brick. Nice gift shop as well. Excellent list of beers to try ranging from year round beers to special one-offs. Highly recommend the food to pair with the beer. A must to visit if you’re in Grand Rapids.
Huge place, and it seems they’re expanding again. I went here a few times, and it was already really busy on a Monday night, the place seems to be quite popular with the younger crowd. Which is understandable, as it looks great, has spacious outside area and great beer for good prices. A must while in Grand Rapids. Good food too.
At the end of the day...any craftbeer tour of Michigan begins and ends with Founders and Bell’s...that doesn’t mean they are the best Michigan has to offer (although they might be)...and either and both have likely held that title...its just that there are so many great up and comers (love Greenbush and Dark Horse)...but given their history...and their amazing venues and large amount of beers...they both deserve a lot of kudos. My first trip to Founders was hardly a disappointment...quite on the contrary it met all of my expectations. We visited this past Saturday...and found the venue to be impressive...loved the beers of course...and their were many...but I’d had many of them over the years given Founders size and breath of distribution. There was a "really" good live band (reasonable $5 cover charge) and the several rooms...and outdoor spaces made Founders a cool place to hang out at. I liked that the age mix was a broad spectrum. At the end of the day I’m starting to like the smaller and more eclectic craftbeer venues (Michigan’s Greenbush would be an excellent example...see my review)...but Founders does the big craftbrewery thing very well. Definitely a must visit while in Grand Rapids.
Great value for the beer you get. Flights are easy and straight-forward. My food portion was huge for what I expected. Tap selection was good but I had most before being around Michigan for a long time. Must visit. Drink what you can only get a the brewpub.
