Iím a huge fan of the classic dive bar. The Freakiní Frog isnít one but it does have a classic dive bar element. This is a place to drink. If youíre looking for something else then go find it else where.
College bar feel but without the kids. Maybe somewhere that grad students and younger profs would go. The beer and whiskey selection is outstanding. The service while a bit on the crass side more than makes up for it with knowledge, patience, and respect for the goods offered.
Tip well and if the prices are too high then go to a liquor store. This is a bar for people who like to drink.
A real hole in the wall. Great beer selection with over 1200 beers, but way overpriced. Lighting is very poor with the bar dimly lit and the dining area overly bright. Service is very good and the staff is very knowledgeable. Food is average at best. Been here once, but doubt Iíll go back.
Visited after arriving was mid afternoon so not many folks in the place. Decent little tap list. Beer cooler with massive selection. Had some bottled Las Vegas local brews, when in Rome. Nice stop for beer drinkers staff were very nice.
I was expecting an upscale chichi place but this turns out to be more of a university dive. Still, a great place with some rare offerings and good prices, happy hour deals, friendly service, no samplers but they will allow tastes. Limited bar menu. A good stop before the airport.
Stopped in on my most recent trip to Las Vegas. Doesnít look like much, inside or out, but they do have a fridge and in that fridge are over 1000 beers. Easily the widest selection in Vegas. Unfortunately, prices are high and the service was just plain rude. You have to be escorted in the beer cooler, and the guy who went in with me asked me what kind of beers I liked. I mentioned Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast and he responded with "have you had it before? Itís crap. Mikkeller makes some good beers, but thatís not one of them."
There are no prices on the bottles or shelves in the cooler, and it was a bit of an ordeal to get prices from the staff. I did end up buying a couple of bottles, and paying way too much for them because they were beers I hadnít found elsewhere.
Summary: If you have a thick skin and are looking for something special, and are willing to pay a bit extra to get it, then this is a one stop shop thatíll get the job done.
One more thing. I couldnít help but overhear my beer guide bragging to some customers at the bar about his "sexy 2014 Mazda6", which was parked out front. Iím a bit of a car nut and I can tell you... Mazda has made some sexy cars, but the 2014 Madza6 isnít one of them.
This place is a total dive, but they have a damn good selection of beers. All of the windows are "blacked-out" and the decor is dingy, to say the least. Their bottle selection is extensive, but the tap list could use a little help. I got a chance to tour their giant walk-in cooler and itís pretty awesome, just tell them you have never seen it before and someone should be able to show you around. The staff was very friendly, and the food was OK, although it just seemed like a bunch of frozen stuff that was reheated. Definitely worth a stop and especially if you canít make it over to Aces. Solid place with decent prices for Vegas.
One of maybe two craft beer bars in Vegas? Or one of two I was told about. What makes this place better than beers on the strip: $6 pours as opposed to $8.50 pours. Decent tap list. Parabola was on tap when I was there. I would have liked more local beers on tap, though, instead of Chimay or Full Sail. Big bottle collection in cooler but bottles are way overpriced. If my friend didnít insist, I would not have paid those prices. And I wasnít happy giving in to his desire to drink ok bottles at high prices. Some stuff in the cooler not distributed to Nevada. And stuff upstairs as well that is not distributed to Nevada. Some somewhat rare beers like old Stone in the cooler. Kind of like the Sergioís of Nevada. Worth a stop, but expensive by the bottle.
This is far and away my favorite beer bar while visitng Vegas. Itís just a stripmall storefront...nothing special from the outside...and pretty basic inside...but the setup does the trick nicely...definitely worth the visit though. The beer list is long and the people who frequent the place (locals especially) are real nice break from who you meet in the casinos and other Vegas bars. Donít miss this place while in town.
