Not very impressive. As others have mentioned, this is the place to come when youíve got a rowdy group of friends looking for a good time. There are other, much better, German restaurants in the Twin Cities. And the beer menu is your basic list of German beers. My one visit did not prompt a return.
Gasthof, not to be confused with Gasthaus in Stillwater, is a great place to go with a group of friends for a rousing good time. As is the case with most other German restaurants of this ilk, the beer list is almost exclusively comprised of German beers (10 of 15 taps), but you can also get Rush River, Two Hearted, Summit and Pabst, if you must. This is the place where you pass around a large glass boot full of beer with the person who passes the boot the person who finishes the boot on the hook for buying the next boot. Food is great too. As German beer places go in the Twin Cities, you canít really beat Gasthof.

This is a fun spot to hang out if youíre with friends who arenít into beer. Itís a German-themed restaurant that doesnít seem to take itself seriously. As youíd expect, the usual large German breweries are on tap, Americanized German food is available if youíre hungry. The real draw is the boisterous, (generally) good-natured crowd this place attracts. Prices and service are fine. Overall, this isnít a beer destination. Itís a good option if youíre in a large group of people who arenít interested in geeking out over the beer selection.

Never loved coming here and most likely never will again after the nazi themed party. Besides that I have more reason to stay away. The basement is like a drunken frat party and this place is a magnet for party buses and pedal pubs.
Awesome place for dinner! I feel like I am in a whole nother world. It's exactly what you would picture if I said "old school German beer hall". Completely with an amazing and hysterical accordion player. Waiting on my good now but it all looks great on the tables around me. Beer selection is fair - all your typical German beers. Was hoping for some special/out of the norm German beer. Good nonetheless.
I liked this place more in college. First dive into German beers back then in the rockiní basement party atmosphere on weekends. Selection is good, but obviously just 10 or so German beers. I get a bit annoyed by the "German Flare" but itís fun.
Great German food. I prefer splitting the two person combos with someone. the food is amazing. Great stuff. The beer is almost all German selections. If you are looking for good beer, they have it here, but its German. If your looking for American craft, try one of the many other establishments in the area. But seriously eat here and drink a boot or two.

itís zur not zum. no wonder I couldnít find this listing. There is another review for zur now. I love this place, kinda spendy by Minneapolis standards ($18 - $28 per plate) but Mario rocks.
For the love of God people it isnít Gustafís or Gasthofís. This isnít a person it is a place.
Please stop Scandinavian-izing this name. There are more Germans in Minnesota than "Yaí Betchas"
Gasthof = Guest House.
zur = of
GemŁtlichkeit = coziness/friendliness
