This was the site selected for the group dinner, so of course I went. The building is pretty cool, two floors including outdoor patios at the ground level and on the second floor. Sections were kind of sports bar themed, while others looked like a normal restaurant. Service was solid and food was quite good. Beers not so great, but not really bad or anything. They happily ran separate checks for all 30+ of us and did not seem to make any (many) mistakes. I am honestly not sure why this place gets such a bad rep here.
The best thing this place has going for it is its location, it’s smack-dab in the middle of campus. Service is good, pleasant. Selection sucks, there’s like 6 of their beers on tap. Value is OK, $8.50ish for entrees and $3.50 pints. I’ll go back.
From what I had, I enjoyed their oatmeal stout the best out of all of their beers I tried. Their year-rounders are delightful for the money paid. I can’t imagine anyone above the age of twelve actually missing the building -- it’s quite large and very distinct. The service was so-so, a brunette girl on food service forgot my drink three different times and I was a little more than annoyingly unimpressed with the entrees. The space is big enough, but there always seemed to be televisions playing the most obnoxious sporting events and the walls are alive with what I refer to as "clusterfuck art", which is basically finding anything you can on the street and nailing to the wall and hope someone appreciates it.
This is a no frills, typical brewpub located so near campus that it definitely has a frat-bar vibe looming in the air. I just had an IPA which was fair. There wasn’t anything standout to really bring me back.
Located at the University, looks nice from the outside. Inside has plenty of seating for the restaurant. The bar area was fairly small, but did have outside seating. Most of the beer is the same as Barrio, so not worth a special stop. I didn’t try the food. The place was pretty empty for a Thursday afternoon (3pm).
A neat looking place near campus. Had the large sampler with 11 of their tap beers, which was nice. Most of the brews were pretty pedestrian. The place wasn’t very busy in the middle of the afternoon, but that was nice. Enjoyed the patio area. Great service. Didn’t try the food. Probably a cool hang out in the evening.
Their beers are nice, prices are a bit over the top as they aim for the frat and sorority parties where money doesnt matter as much. I think the beers are pretty well made with 6 or 7 options all the time. Service is decent if its not too busy.
