Nice clean and well lit new store. Very friendly staff, but calling to ask about a beer can be troubling as they dont seem to know what they have or what they are selling at times. Smaller selction, but you can always find something unique. Their pricing if you sign up for the membership thing are SUPER low. Best liquor store in the area, hands down. Not the place to get a limited release though as their extensive customer base makes for small supply. To be fair, after a special release they seem to put things on the shelf if they have any left. It is always a couple weeks after release, but it can make for some unexpected finds. I once bought 2 barrel aged old ruffians off the shelf for example.
They tore the old store down and built a new one. It has a lot more cooler space for craft beer. It seems like they have upgraded their selection as well. You will get a pretty good representation of what is available in the area. Prices are inline with other stores.
I haven’t had any experience with the service on my most recent visits, but I believe that Mark still runs things. They don’t seem as up on the social media as some of the other stores as far as posting new arrivals.
This is one of those stores that keeps some things behind the counter, so you might have to ask if there is something that you don’t see.
This place was just rebuilt, and it’s now a shiny and modern store with a fairly big beer selection. Stuff was well organized. Solid selection of local and regional stuff with a decent dose of Belgian, Germans, etc. Very convenient to Wesport, easy to hit while you’re exploring the Foundry, the Green Room. Having a good beer store here really makes Westport a much better beer destination that downtown KC, imho.
Best of the three Gomer’s I have visited. Not the biggest selection in KC, but decent. Clean store and well organized. Staff was friendly. Seemed to be very busy. Prices were good. If you are in this part of town you should stop in.
It’s a pretty all right place, don’t let the way it looks on the outside keep you from going in. You’ll be quick to learn that the siding falling off the bulding is just a part of that Gomers charm. Plenty of good beer way in the back, pretty disorganized but the guy working there both times I’ve been in has been very nice and as helpful as he can be. Prices are fair and sometimes they’ve got good sales (or at least this is what I’ve observed the two times I’ve been in)
Recently rebuilt and bigger than the previous store. Pretty good selection, a good amount of bombers and 6-packs. This is the only liquor store I have found in the closeby vicinity to Westport/Plaza that has a good beer selection. I tend to like going to Royal Liquors on State Line more, because they have a little better selection, but I go here quite a bit because it is so close to my apartment.

Pretty good selection but not as good as another Gomers in town. Pretty good selection that get some limited releases. Located near the Plaza which is convenient for my travels.
Stopped by, midday Thursday. Selection is less than Lukas KC or Royal 103rd (as of Feb 2008) though it still is fairly representative of what is locally available. Well above average selection for a beer store. Maybe more convenient for folks traveling to town compared to the places down south. One drawback is no mix a six offered. Service was good the day I was in, though Mark (beer manager) was not in. They helped me locate a beer that wasn’t on the floor yet. As mentioned by others, this is not a clean store - inside or out.

In the Midtown/Westport area of Kansas City, this is the best bottle shop by a pretty wide margin. Stock is usually somewhat limited, so if you see something unusual or special that you like, you’d better grab it while you can. Selection is typically less interesting than the Gomer’s on Holmes, however. Update - Feb. 2012: Recently this building was bulldozed and completely rebuilt from the ground up. The new building has quite a bit more space and is a lot easier to navigate. This means they have more stuff in stock nowadays. Major upgrade, this almost puts the Westport Gomer’s on par with Gomer’s South in terms of products carried.
