We (me, Loz, Nick and Anna) visited Bon Accord on Saturday 20th May 2017. We’d just been to Grunting Growler and Brewdog and had walked around Kelvingrove Museum. It had been a sunny day but with some heavy showers and we were really after something to eat but noting this places reputation and also for the fact that it was across the road from our hotel (albeit that road was the M8 Mway) we felt we should visit. The Bon Accord is easy to find, it’s on the western side of the city and because of the Mway, I should imagine it’s technically just out of the centre. For orientation purposes it’s just across the road from the our aforementioned hotel, the high rise Premier Inn which in turn sits above Charing Cross station.

It was really quite busy on our visit there were a number of people at the bar and spare seats were at a premium. However we got served quite swiftly and between us perched on one or two spare stools looking at a fab’ memorable signed photo of Archie Gemmil scoring one of the best ever World Cup goals back in the 78 World Cup, I was a Forest fan growing up and was a fan of Archie Gemmil and remember that goal. Back to the pub, because it was so busy we couldn’t really explore but as you enter there is some seating at the front of the pub, the bar is on the left with a large vertical fish tank at this end. I understand that that there is a garden but hadn’t realised that at the time. It appears to be a long rectangular shaped bar, I haven’t a clue if it is one room or multi room. The beers appeared to be mostly cask, I think that we settled for Castle Rock offerings. It is a nice place, I just wish our visit would have been at a less busy time.

A nice traditional pub isolated from the city centre by the M8 motorway. It’s on two levels and there’s lots of dark wood but the front area feels quite light and airy. We sat under a large black and white photograph of Billy Bremner and another (unidentified) footballer, by a vertical fishtank at the end of the bar. I enjoyed watching the fish (very relaxing - that’s why they often have them in dentists’ waiting rooms apparently) but I did wonder if the tank was suitable for the large catfish. There were ten hand pumps with a good selection of beer - it was a great start to our day out in Glasgow. (Visited 1 February 2017).

Off the beaten track traditional pub. The Bon Accord seems to be one of those Scottish pubs that garners attention for the whisky selection, and everything else is secondary. Well, that’s fine, but for this rating (as is standard) I’m concentrating on the beer. Ten casks concentrating on Scottish session almost craft-ish brewers are complemented by a decent but not eye-popping bottle selection. Keg is confined to macro so the boat here is very much not pushed out. So it’s a good place to go to decamp and think about one’s next move rather than a place to immerse oneself in all the beery goodness that Glasgow has to offer. Still, it’s friendly, full of heart, and comfortable. I’d recommend giving it a go if your itinerary permits.

Excellent selection of well kept cask conditioned ales, and a decent bottle selection, off topic a little, but a simply magnificent whisky selection. Staff really know their stuff and are a credit to the establishment. The food was very good, and the portions generous, I had the Bon Breakfast, which is probably the best Scottish fry up I have ever had. Thankfully not some kind of trendy beer bar, but a pub for people that love good booze, good food, and a great atmosphere. UPDATE: We were back in Scotland this summer and naturally went to Bon Accord again. Still a wonderful place to hang out, drink, and revel in the craic. Wonderful staff, superb range of beer and whisky, and owner Paul is the very living embodiment of the phrase ’bon vivant’.

A nice enough, quite large boozer with a decent selection of ales Visit 2 An awsome old fashioned bar. Really good cask selection, an awsome whisky selection. Love the little sample jars of beers in front of tap so you can see colour. Its just such an impressive place backed up with decent beer list

A big torn over the place. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. The food was basic, but great value for money (we were on expences so thought about having a second meal each). However the beer selection seemed pretty bland. The pub itself had seen better days and there were only about two other customers. Would go again if I was in the area but really surprised that this place scores so highly.

Visited on Friday 19th Feb 2016. Large old-fashioned pub just the other side from Charing Cross over the busy motorway (there is a bridge, it’s not Frogger!). Lots of room to relax in, decent range of beer, food looked good and was well priced. Focus on good real ale and whisky. Liked the place.

More of a whisky bar than a craft beer pub, the Bon has fantastic old fashioned ambience, good solid pub grub, and a constantly rotating selection of real ales. It’s definitely more CAMRA than craft beer, but there are plenty of other places in Glasgow catering for hipsters. I can’t think of a better pub anywhere for a hauf n’ a hauf.

Traditional pub in an area full of office blocks and right next to the motorway. Good selection of real ales on offer, my pint of Onyx was a lovely darkish ale that went down very easily. Comfortable leather seats, oak wood and brass much in evidence, the Bon Accord is very charming indeed. Recommended.
