I haven’t been beer shopping at Harris Teeter in a couple of years, but holy cow did they expand. Tons and tons of singles for the build-your-own 6. Nothing rare, but the amount of different beers is probably more variety total than the three Krogers in town put together. The whole last aisle in the store one side is nothing but beer. I mainly looked at the singles (three full cases top to bottom shelves) and the variety 12-packs. Ended up with a quick 9-10 I hadn’t had and probably could have continued but I was in a slight hurry. I’ll be back to browse when I’m looking for singles to try.

Convenient location and hours of business. As far as selection goes for grocery stores in the area, it’s probably only behind Whole Foods. There’s a large selection of national players as well as a decent representation of local breweries. Prices are fine, service is nonexistent. Overall, temper your expectations, but it’s nice to have around.

Decent beer selection. They also have a beer cave, mostly filled with domestics. All of their beer is cold. A good variety of common craft offerings, 4- and 6-packs, 22’s, and 750’s.

Better than Kroger in Charlottesville (and in the same shopping center), and better than most grocery stores that I have been to. The mean in terms of quality is not as good as Whole Foods, but they might have a bigger selection (close call). Definitely a great place to go later in the day after Wine Warehouse or Whole Foods is closed (though there is also Beer Run for late night runs). The selection fluctuates a little bit among certain beers (the ones I usually want). Plus, it is convenient to those near central C’ville and (to a greater extent) UVA. There is no service to speak of, so I wasn’t sure how to rate that.

The best grocery store in the area in terms of beer selection with the exception of Whole Foods, and a tick better than the Hollymead location already in the database. Located near the University in a large shopping center. Plenty of parking. Prices are competitive. Customer service doesn’t exist. There are plenty of macros, but also a few Belgians and a good representation of the local and regional craft beer scenes, as well as some national micros. Overall, worth a stop if you need to pick up some good beer late at night, but before 10PM there are better options open for bottles.
