An old building in the heart of downtown, with lots of wood, a big bar, and plenty of seating. Service was great, helpful, knowledgeable, and very present. Great selection, including most of the GABF medal winners, and some different experiments too. The beerfather of San Diego, the OG.
Beers not bad but nothing special. For this part of the world I expected a few more hops! It was interesting to see through to the brewery and see two big wooden barrels time fermenting a Belgian tripel... would love to try it when it comes on. Also impressive was a cask ale beer engine which is only used Thursday till the weekend which I understand but unfortunately I was there on Monday so it was out of use! Did not see any guest beers, just their own.
A little bit noisy on the inside but the al fresco dining is great. Service is a little bit slow, the servers could be slightly more knowledgeable, and the tables could be cleaned waaay better.
But the beer in my opinion, really makes up for it. A pleasant surprise during my trip - perfect temperature, carbonated, and balanced beers.
The signature dish is the macaroni and cheese. It takes the reputation deservedly. I’d recommend the plain mac and cheese, then anything else if you’re feeling hungry.
A relatively "commercial" brepub location, with the 8 Karl Strauss regular line-up beers and 2 rotating offerings. Average prices for the area. A fine place to come and tick some new beers if you’re in the area, but you’ll fins a wider variety of Karl Strauss beers available at other locations.
Had dinner here on a Friday. Pastrami sandwich was absolutely fantastic. Got seated right away at the bar. Helpful staff. The beer is what it is. But the sandwich was really, really good. Nice place for lunch with a few more ticks for new beers that ranged from good to very good.
Our first stop, just happened to be driving downtown and saw the brewpub. Several beers were on tap, all were decent, nothing outstanding. The place was big and had plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Worth the stop.Tried the flight and had a meal, both were good. Worth the stop.
