OK, so given the location, and it’s proximity to Apocalypse Ale Works (right next door), this could be a worthy resupply spot for the weary beer traveler heading for the mountains of Virginia. But their sign out front claims 600 different craft beers, and there was nowhere near that many. They do have a great lineup of quality beers, and I even found a couple I’d never had. They only sell singles, which could be a pro or con I guess. But it’s pretty small, only has about 20 feet of shelf space dedicated to beer (there’s also a little wine and homebrewing supplies). If you’re there, drop by.

This is a craft beer bottle shop that also sells gourmet food, wine, and homebrew supplies. Clearly, the emphasis is on the craft beer, though with 500-1000 labels. Huzzah! The import section is filled with the usual suspects, most styles and breweries represented. They have Evil Twin, but not Mikkeller or Nogne 0. I was told they have distribution challenges, which is understandable given their location. The US section is slightly larger, with plenty of locals. Outside of locals, there is a more discriminating selection of the best American craft beers. A quick examination of this section reveals the proprietor’s favorite styles and breweries, but he or she knows their stuff. Prices are reasonable and good deals are sure to be had. Service was friendly, helpful, and unobtrusive. Now that I have decided to settle for good in Lynchburg (5 miles away), this has become my go-to beer shop. They will be seeing a lot of me.

Dropped in as this is literally next door to Apocalypse. Combination homebrew shop/bottle shop. The air was filled with the smells of a brew day which was nice. Several beers were being offered to taste. The homebrew side is light on the equipment but seemed to be decently stocked with supplies and ingredients. The bottles were something I hadn’t seen before... the place is ALL singles. They don’t sell six packs, though I suppose you could buy a mixed six pack all of the same thing. Good selection with good representation of local, US and international craft beer. No rarities, and I think I only found one or two things I hadn’t had. Staff seemed helpful to other people but did not offer to assist me. Prices were about average. Parking was very tight with the brewery open.
