Been here twice so far, once on a matchday (as a visiting away fan) and again on a weekday afternoon, both occasions I've been impressed by the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere in the place. More importantly, great range of cask and keg beers and a big bottle list with plenty of beers I hadn't seen elsewhere. Good music in the background. There was a cask and bottled beer of the week at a special price too.

Close to the Railway Station this is a relaxed, friendly pub with a large range of beers. Opened up, stripped back in the modern style. Although owned by Cameron’s there were plenty of guest beers to be had. Well worth a visit.

Visited on 30th April 2017. A few mins walk from Central station and a few doors down from the Bodega this is a studenty pub, plenty of seating, a couple of rooms, a cinema thing going on, decor is decent enough. A decent beer range with a mix of cask, keg and a solid bottle list. Service was good, beer quality good and prices decent. Liked this place and would return.

Visited in February 2016. Part of the Head of Steam group. Has a stripped down, slightly shabby feel. That’s not to say it’s an unappealing ambience, just, lat’s say, well-worn. Part of the Head of Steam group, so you might find a token Camerons beer here but the main focus is on craft and "modern" beers. The beer range was decent - 7 casks, a few crafts kegs (didn’t count) and a quite extensive selection of maybe 100+ bottles (didn’t look too closely). Brewers represented on the taps included Wylam, Fyne Ales and Magic Rock. Only one new beer for me but it’s certainly a solid selection. Chatty, enthusiastic and clued up service. Maybe not an essential stop, given the quality of the opposition in Newcastle, but well worth a look.

Tilleys Bar has been stripped out and painted in an airforce blue / grey colour throughout. Despite being open plan it has a number of separate areas - a raised platform with wooden tables and chairs, a snug, a few sofas in one part and booths in the main bar (which was very cold), helpfully fitted with plug sockets and USB points. The decor feels a bit tired but the beer list was very good. There were seven casks, three kegs and a fridge full of bottles. We didn’t eat there but the American-inspired menu looked quite nice. (Visited 11 February 2016).

I’ve visited a few times, and never really been impressed. Positives: friendly easy going atmosphere, homely fee, staff usually helpful. good selection Negatives: beer not always in good nick, not cheap. At least they’re trying. Beer condition is my main quibble.

A great place for enjoying good beer. It has the cosiness of a proper pub, which I much prefer to the trendy bars in town even if it is a bit scruffy. The selection is very good on cask and keg, while the bottle selection was pretty outstanding. I was pretty happy with the prices too.

We visited here on Wednesday 1st October 2014. As others mention this does have a slightly worn, dare I say tatty, feel about it. Its easy to find on a hill heading up town and close to the Bodega. The bar is a large oblong with the actual bar being ahead and to your left as you enter (not sure if there we two entrances but we took first entrance walking up from town) Seats and sofas and tables are all around the outside which is set out in an L shape arrangement around the bar. Beer choice is good, it appeared to be mostly cask but they had some Octoberfest German beers on keg. The chap who served us was very chatty and friendly. I quite liked this bar, I can imagine it would be popular with the student crowd, though when we entered it was just us and a couple of old fellas. I had Allendale Export stout which if truth be told was past its best and I probably should have taken it back, it was however drinkable and having just listened to the friendly chap behind the bar telling me how good it was and the flavours it has, actually made me feel slightly awkward about returning it, I wouldn’t normally feel like that and am quite happy to return beer, but I grinned and beared it on this occasion and whilst not top notch it was still drinkable. I think this place will need to up its game as there appears to be quite a few new kids on the block that are offering more than this place is doing. Bottled beer range is good but some are really quite pricey, I love Rochefort 10 but it was well over £7 a bottle here as I recall which seems really rather steep to me.

Quite a rustic and down to earth place with a decent selection of beer (especially in bottles) and very competitive prices. Gets extremely busy on matchdays, but not quite as busy as Bodega gets.

A very odd bar, bit of a dive, bright and large with hipsters, backpackers and families all drinking together. Tap list is decent, huge bottle list and prices that are a slight height. Food is crazy cheap though, but I didn’t eat. Overall, a place I could waste a lot of time in.
