At the more ’residential’ end of Stockbridge, much larger of the two stores although the beer selection is slightly smaller - about a third of the store is beer but plenty of room in the middle for their regular tastings.

Beer wise a fairly decent spread about 60/40 fridge to shelf ratio with about half Belgian/Belgian/Scottish staple and the other half American and European oddities that shuffle on a monthly basis.

The biggest draw for me is the combination of great pales (or emergency Orval) and being a bit of an ’on the shelf’ secret stash of some UK treats when you get down to drinking your last BA barely wine...

The shop is ran by Erica who is keen to help point out new treats and let you get on with it and if you’re unlucky enough to amble in when Ash (the owner) is behind the counter, you might get opted into an impromtu tasting of the new stock

Tastings are a big thing that sets the store apart, often ticketed beyond value of the beer off the shelf and hosted by able experts and brewery bods.

It helps that this is literally at the bottom of my hill, but sandwiched between supermarkets...if it started selling me eggs and milk I’d not need to go anywhere else in EH4.

From memonry, slightly less choice than the dalry road store. Much like the other outlet, Ash (the owner) is always extremely helpful. Similarly hosts regular, tastings.

SIster shop to the one at haymarket, not quite so big a beer range, but a nice decent selection. Friendly staff. good service. The kind of place its probably not worth going all way across town for, but if you lived loclly youd go in most weeks

This is a great store, located a short walk from the excellent Stockbridge Tap. The owner, Ash, is very knowledgable about beer and is always keen to talk about new releases and old favourites. The store is very large and is regularly used for beer and wine tastings.

Large and spacious shop with good selection of Scottish, US, German and Belgian beers, with other rarities cropping up from e.g. Mikkeller, Nogne. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Regular tastings.

Opened at the start of 2013, the second Appellation Wines in Edinburgh is just outside Stockbridge, in Comely Bank. Open and square, as opposed to MkI’s long and thin, there’s just the same great range of bottled beer from the UK, Europe and USA. Feels a bit empty at the moment, with the large central space, but it makes for better tastings – and I guess over time displays will arrive to fill it. Another great Edinburgh bottle shop, hopefully will do well with Waitrose just down the road. As with the other Appellation, beer tastings are a regular occurrence (every Monday, alternating between the two)

Shop is fairly new, will re-rate later. Sister store to Appellation Wines in Dalry. This store is bigger and feels less crowded. Ash is the manager and has brought his excellent staff over. For real beer knowledge you should get hold of Ash though. The selection is very good but so far not braking any new ground. Go here for many good Scottish ales as well as a very good selection of beer from the US, Belgium and Germany. Has a lot of craft beers from around Europe as well. The range will probably increase as the shop settles in.
