Updated Rating 2017, part 2: Well, in the past month or two, they’ve reduced their beer selection by another 30-40%, to make way for more seating for the coffee area. Compared to the selection of 1-2 years ago, they currently have probably 50-75% less. Oh well, that seems to be what’s going on at other bottle shops - lessening the bottle selection to make more room for the bar and seating. This used to be my go-to place for picking up bottles, but probably not in the top 3 anymore. Still a decent stop though.
Updated Rating 2017: This place has changed quite a bit over the last couple years, some things better, some things worse. The selection seems to have decreased a decent. I think this is probably for the better. Previously they had tons of stuff rotting, so I think this will probably help keep things from being old. And while I say that selection has decreased, they still have one of the largest selections in the city, so you won’t be disappointed. And they still get in the highly sought after beers. The other big change is that they’ve added a coffee bar in the back with several tables. Some people may like this, but I find it to make browsing the beer selection very difficult. Everytime I visit, the coffee area is totally full. The reason this is annoying is that the tables are in front on a number of the beer shelves. So you basically have to lean over people or squeeze through tight spaces to browse about 1/3 of their selection. So I’m knocking off a couple points. Still a great place, but I don’t visit nearly as much as in the past.
Original Rating: One of the best bottle selections in Charlotte. This store is filled with shelves of hundreds of bottles of different beers, including a great selection of local NC beers as well as some interesting foreign imports. They also have around 12 beers on tap, including a couple Wicked Weed beers last time I visited. My favorite store to visit and pick up some new beers.
Similar format as Salud. Mostly a bottle shop featuring not only national craft beer brands but also Carolina locals. Small bar in back with several tap lines. No food available but there are options close by.
In a location surrounded by breweries, this place actually doesn’t need the help. A good selection, good prices, nice staff, a local crown offering suggestions and a bar how can you go wrong. Selection is good an varied with lots of locals. Tap list si pretty good as well. If you are doing breweries in the area, you will likely be close by. Make this a stop.
Visited around dinner time on a Tuesday. Easy to find, located on a busy corner with a parking lot behind the building. Well organized racks and coolers of beers, with a comfortable bar in back. 12 beers on draft, many interesting choices lots of locals. Solid single beer selection. Very friendly and knowledgeable service. I enjoyed my visit, solid store.
82 = ★★★½ (Solid place, near the top of the list for locals and visitors)
I only use the total score, not the component parts.
The Good Bottle Co. is all business (and I mean that in a hood way)! They have their beers organized clearly by style and they have a very down to earth no nonsense approach to their beers. I can make my own customized 6 pack and they have quite an array of different craft beers!
This is in the yuppy part of town with suitably yuppy clientele. The selection is large, especially the bottles, which are available for on site consumption or take away. There is a large bar in back with service, and a small non-serviced bar up front. Sadly there was no beer list available. Server told us the styles of each beer, but not the names or the brewwers, we were just expected to choose a style. Very odd. Beers were available in 8 or 16 ounces regardless of style or abv, also odd. The beers were good, though, selection was good, so I’ll be back.
Dedicated parking in the back. Small bar back right. Cans front right, shelves in the center refrigerated on the right. The guy was quite helpful, but not real knowledgable. Nice quantity and good quality. Hope to come back.
Nice store, with the beer sorted by style, but with a prominent local section. Small bar area in the back, with 12 taps. The service was very friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable. The bottle prices seemed a little high, but not out of the ordinary for NC, and the draught prices were great. Overall, this is a fairly small, low-key kind of shop, but it has everything you could want in a quality beer store.
