This place rocks. The selection is fabulous, the stock rotates a lot so you get something new each time. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The value of what you get is hit or miss sometimes though, sometimes you will overpay here! But it is worth it because sometimes price is right on par to everywhere else. Excellent hard alcohol selection too.
The best liquor store in the bay area, period; staff that actually want to help directing me to obscure bottles shoved into strangely organized boxes describe my visits here. If youíre a music fan like myself, going through their beer selection feels like going through a killer used section at a record store; you have to really look but it pays off, youíll find some strange rare gems tucked way in there, and youíll probably try not that hard in avoiding spouting off your knowledge on their selection because you know one of the clerks is dying to do the same. My ONLY qualm with this place is that they close at 8PM every night, except Sunday, when their not even open.
This place gets the high ratings, and they do have a lot of interesting bottles here, but its pretty haphazardy layed out. Lots of labels on the cooler doors make it hard to see whats inside. Row of non refrigerated beers is really all over the place. I think I saw pockets of the same beer in four different places. Definitely worth the visit, but donít expect miracles. He does have some pretty unusual stuff that would be hard to find anywhere else.
I have been shopping here for years. Ed keeps a good stock of both foreign and domestic beers and the prices are quite reasonable. There is usually a good selection of available Russian River brews, as well as Belgian imports, and an occasional rare beer gem.
As most others have stated, doesnít look like much from the outside, but is definitely worth a visit. Selections is really good. One of the few places that regularly gets bottles of Pliny and Blind Pig. Not a lot of rarer stuff, but a very solid selection of regular brews from allover. If youíre foreign, remember to bring your passport, they wonít accept anything else... Good prices.
Let me start off by saying I love small beer stores but absolutely have not been impressed with any stores in the Bay Area. While City Beer has its advantages, driving into the city sucks any way you look at it and the vibe there is just too cramped in my opinion. In comes Ledgerís Liquors. While this is in a fairly decent part of town, this store looks to be like just another run down liquor store from the outside...WRONG! When one approaches closer there is a wide variety of glassware in the window. As I started to peruse the isles of beer I absolutely loved how things werenít very organized but there was enough room for them to be spread out. This lead to a treasure hunt for beer and I ended up finding some gems. What was also amazing was that every 6 pack I saw could be broken up into singles (and there were quite a few). I hate it when expensive six packs can be broken up but the common or cheap ones usually canít at normal stores, there is no such problem here. I found 4 Russian River Brews here as well as a good selection of Lost Abbey/Port Brewing, etc etc. While the selection wasnít mindblowing, it was great for the Bay Area. The prices werenít all that bad. From other reviews I was expecting this place to be super expensive but it seems to only be a matter of a buck or two here and there off from bevmo and I would much rather give ledgers my business. After I paid and was about to leave I remembered that I wanted a bottle of water so I went up to the counter and took my wallet out only to have the owner tell me not to worry about it and to enjoy the beer. Great service, awesome vibe, this place is hard to beat.
The selection here is top notch. Kind of a dusty old liquor store, but certainly some gems and obscurities to be had. Much of the beer is out on the shelves, but they have quite a few cooler doors as well. Tons of liquor available also. The service was sort of non-existent during my visit, but that was mostly due to a hyperdemanding customer asking a million questions. Really solid prices on the beers, very competitive if not cheaper than many places. If youíre willing to peruse the "warm" shelves, you can very well find some interesting new beers.
