Big Alko at the eastern end of Kamppi. Big beer corner, divided by styles. Not easy to find Sahti, but they had 2 different in a cooler, pity I had tasted both of them. Some breweries from the US unknown in Norway was also here, amongst all the classic Belgians, UK, German stuff. No staff seen in beer corner, just me...

This is the main alcohol store of the state owned monopoly Alko chain. Beer selection was good for Finland even before but now after the august 2016 renewal it has doubled the beer section. Lots of special selection beers (even lambics). Selection also changes at least monthly. This might be nothing special to foreigners used to some beer stores with huge collection of different beers but for us this is the main place for beer with ABV above 4.7%.

Having already picked up a couple of ticks ina supermarket in Oulu, I was somewhat disappointed with this place. The Finnish selection was OK, but no Sahti in stock. Was also hoping to pick up something interesting to take to a friend’s that evening but just ended up with a random Belgian beer as it was the one in a large bottle. Worth it for the local beers but not interesting otherwise.

The opening times of this place are a pain in the arse, closed Sunday and Bank Holidays FFS! When you do manage to find it open there is a decent selection of bottles to be had, I picked up 20 without trying and probably could have doubled that if I had some help carrying them. Beers are mostly along the back wall but watch out for random displays of the odd beer or two throughout the store. Sahti’s were available, but from the fridge adjacent to the back wall. Overall definitely worth a visit but avoid bank holidays!

Beer area is at the back of the store, I was expecting better selection but it wasn’t that great, at least when I visited. No rare staff, most foreign beers weren’t exciting, no US beers. It actually took me half a hour to find 8 good beers to take away. Price is ~4 euro for a 33ml bottle, which is ok.

Place rating #500! Alko Helsinki Arkadia is probably one of the largest and most central outposts of the state-run booze monopoly. Inside it is clean and almost clinical. Selection seems pretty decent, but this is the only Alko store I visited on my trip, so it is difficult to compare. Good selection Finnish and world-wide microbrews. Seems like there a few one-off brews for the Alko chain. There are a few ice-ciders available, which although expensive are not overly so in comparison to other countries. I headed straight for the fridge to stock up on Sahti’s! Then I pretty much got boosted on them. I suppose this is THE place to go for take-away beer in Helsinki. Alright.

The biggest Alko in Finland I suppose. Not a bad selection of beers but one could expect more for a state-run store with monopoly on anything above 4.6%. Certainly overpriced but most of it is due to the Finnish taxes on alcohol.

Looks clean, bit sterile and expensive. Compared to Kamppi less quantity but more quality. Looks also bit more expensive, but I think it’s depends on taxing the alcohol by %.

Stable selection of finnish micros, quite a lot of german brews, a few belgians etc. Best thing about it is however the two sahtis in the fridge!
