A great spot in Madison. A bit of an americanized bistro feel to the place. The servers know the beer. A strong tap selection and one of the better bottle selections I have seen with a strong Belgian theme. Food was quite good and prices were a bit steep. Well worth the stop if you are in Madison
Comfortable gastropub styled as a Franco-Belgian Brown Bar, the effort is appreciated but it’s not as if you’re transported to a true Estaminet when stepping inside, more like a theme park recreation that never feels like the real thing. But for Madison it’s one of the best opportunities for Belgian and Belgian-style beer, most notably the Blackberry Farm kegs that they put on tap (the only place in Madison I found BFB). Glassware and lines were clean, staff is attentive, and food is flavorful though clearly overpriced, which fits with the affected feel of the place.
Awesome little bar with a very old world Belgian vibe to it. Service was great, very knowledgeable and very on top of service. Selection was pretty awesome, with a lot of hard to find and rare stuff, plus all your Belgian favorites. I would love to go back and try the food. Definitely an awesome spot.
Large bar. Did not try the food. Bar staff was wildly inconsistent, ranging from gruff to friendly and informative. Lots of taps, many more bottles, and beer prices were excellent. I was happy to find an OEC beer on tap. I got easy parking right in front but I probably got lucky. Overall a great place. I’ll be back and I’d be a regular if local.
Having visited now for a number of Great Taste related events I can say that Brasserie V has carved out a niche in the Madison beer scene. Well worth a visit, its only weakness might be the parking situation as it sits on a busy street between downtown and the eastern residential areas.
Attention to detail includes proper glassware, temperature, and careful pours. Drafts can be more than average but this is due as much to the rarity than trying to gouge you for an extra dollar. I would say that two people could order beers and a meal for around $50 which isn’t terrible since the food is more upscale than Great Dane or a bar.
Make it a point to stop by here on the trip between downtown and Vintage. You won’t be disappointed. As a bonus if you are a Trader Joe’s fan you can go across the street to grab a few cheap rates.

Stopped in in the Friday before Great Taste, 2015. Very full with standing room only. Service was still surprisingly helpful and friendly for how busy they were. One of the best tap lists I have seen anywhere, Pannepot on tap; several sours as well. Lots of Belgian beer, in bottles, some lambics included. I didn’t eat but the food look and smelled amazing. Ambiance is upscale Euro bistro.
Visited on GTMW eve. Comfortably crowded, and both the space and the staff handled the crowd well. This place is in what looks like formerly two adjacent buildings, and the large bar covers the space between them, and almost fills the entire space. Few tables at the periphery. Tap and bottle list included a wide range of Belgians and Belgian styles from the US and Europe, and even a mead from South Africa. Oh, and a great list of Perennial stuff, with the Perennial crew imbibing as well. Staff were working hard but kept up nicely, and were helpful and knowledgeable. Decent prices. Cheese plate was awesome. Easily the best GTMW eve event that I tried, by a wide margin. Great vibe. Great place.
My third visit to Brasserie V was last week on the eve of the GTMW. I had visited a few years back (before they expanded next door - which is a huge improvement!) and went there for an anniversary dinner a few years ago as well. I have to bump the Ambiance up to 5 because there was a bartender who had on a shirt that said ’Craft Beer, Hail Satan’ on, which I now must have. Service was good, though a bit slow. The place got slammed though as the special tappings of Perennial and Side Project began. Decent tap list - many things from overseas and on the saison side of the spectrum. Large bottle list as well (over priced, as is typical in a restaurant). From my previous visit I remember the food being very nice, though certainly on the expensive side. Side note: Do not park on the street that the restaurant is on during the week - its a tow zone for rush hour traffic!!
