A superb pub that has never let me down. Atmosphere always welcoming and friendly, admittedly the interior is quite basic and spartan, still very comfortable though. First class selection of beers, drank a fair few from breweries like Thornbridge, Buxton and Fullers to name but three of them. Beer quality excellent and pricing is still very acceptable, never had a bad pint here. If you only go to one pub in Huddersfield, make it the Grove.
Fantastic pub! Arrived at opening and enjoyed a couple of hours supping a few pints. The beer selection is very solid with reliable permanent casks and many guest ales as well. An extensive bottle list is also available. The interior is quite basic but inviting nonetheless. Some interesting bar snacks with the likes of jerky, insects and chocolate. Friendly barman. Easily walkable from the town centre. A classic.
A freehouse with a huge range of beers on cask, keg and bottles. Two rooms with a bar serving both the tap room and the main room. The tap and cask menu are displayed on blackboards and includes both local Yorkshire ales and brews from other counties and countries, even from Italy. They do the draught beers in thirds. The bottled menu had quite a few beers from Norwegian breweries like Haandbryggeriet and Nøgne Ø. The pub is, in fact, a steady-going beer festival. Cozy atmosphere and friendly, professional service (visited as our second pub during a crawl in Huddersfield 09.07.2014).

Visited here Saturday 23rd April 2011 which I think was my second visit here, we’d been the year before Good start as the young lad behind the bar lets us bring our bikes right through the pub and out into the back garden to save having to faff about locking them up. Incredible range of beers, in fact I was gobsmacked at the choice, the bottled beer list was damn healthy too. Very friendly and helpful staff, great choice of beers with Mikkeller, De Molen, Gadds, Brewdog, Thornbridge etc on tap. I could have this as my local any day. Great place. We visited here again on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th February 2014. This really is a truly fantastic place, there can be few places anywhere that can match this in the UK, it just gets better and better for beer choice, on both nights we chatted with the clientele. The staff are very knowledgeable and with younger staff involved this place is really looking secure for the future. I cannot praise it enough, it was busy but not uncomfortable, I only wish this was my local.
Just out of the town centre ring to the west of the commercial centre, and close to the Apna Venue where the CAMRA Huddersfield beer festival has been held. This has to be the number one destination of anyone visiting Huddersfield for real ale - there’s about 30 rotating options in cask and keg form. The pub is rustic and a little bohemian in style, but it’s comfortable enough and matters little given there’s hardly any better selections in the country.
An incredible pub. Enormous selection of beer on cask, keg and in bottles. What’s more it’s beer from a lot of the very best breweries. Knowledgable staff, some very unusual bar snacks and quite honestly it’s difficult to drag yourself out of this place.
A fairly unassuming exterior belies what is hidden within! By rights a selection of beer like this should only exist in a capital city. However, here is proof that if you build it, then they shall come. After taking everything in, I had a look through the bottles list, with a view to taking some home. I asked the barman if everything on the list was currently in stock. "Give me five minutes to check, and I’ll let you know", he said. Five minutes later and the answer was, "Yep, every one’s in stock". That pretty much sums the place up. Dedicated!
Unfortunately, due to a limited train schedule I didn’t get to spend as long in here as I hoped to. The ambiance is definitely unique, friendly. I drank at a table next to a wall that was covered in Freud-esque nude paintings. The service is solid, professional. The selection seemed to be a bit more limited on my visit than some of the other reviews indicate. Not all the casks were firing. What was available was quality, plenty of local micros available. The keg selection’s pretty wide-ranging, and included some random stuff from Haand. I didn’t check out the bottle list, but probably should have! No food available. The prices are truly fantastic considering what’s on offer. This place is much cheaper than the craft bars in London. Overall, a place that’s definitely worth the journey. I’d love to come back as I don’t feel like I got the full Grove experience on my rushed visit.

Amazing, like the bizarre offspring of the Wildeman and the Rovers Return. For a non obvious location the selection is unbelievably superb. Staff seemed good, customers friendly. Didn’t want to leave.
WAUW what a great place :-) for sure a must visit pub for me whenever I am in Huddersfield, in fact a reason to go to Huddersfield :-).. Amazing tap liste, beers in great condition, from micros all over. Superb bottle selection as well. The pub has 2 rooms with the bar area in the middle, in the back a smaller beergarden as well. Great atmosphere, easy to meet other beerpeople from all over the world here, nice deco, for sure a place to re-visit.. Go there and enjoy :-)
Definitely the finest pub in England. Everything during my visit was spot on conditioning wise, selection was astronomical, quality of service was drilled, efficient and attentive.
I don’t remember much in terms of food but Brian let me order some food from a nearby takeaway and I was able to consume it with my Magic Rock Human Cannonball so I am very grateful for that.
The best pint of Human Cannonball I’ve ever had was here. Yes, this is the equivalent to the hot bars in Rome for cellaring standards and dispense standards. Really fantastic.
Prices were almost too good to believe. The London pubs are much more expensive than The Grove.
I had one of my best ever drinking nights here. I will definitely be back. Also of note Bitches Brewing is Grove Brew Brian’s project so expect to see a lot of his beer here.
