Sports bar like feel to this place. Lots of TV’s and a central bar that is surrounded by seating. Service was decent and not particularly beer oriented. They had 16 taps that were a combination of local and national micros. They occasionally have some nice taps come through. No samplers available. Didn’t try the food on my visit and prices were inline with the area. For the area, not really worth the time unless they have something special on.

Visited with jackl, deyholla, evanlarkin & Nicole. College bar or sports bar feel to this place, lots of TVs, couple of pool tables, darts. Decent enough beer selection. Worth a look if you’re nearby.

Cool spot. It’s a cavernous place with a rock ’n roll feel spread across a couple of rooms. The 20ish taps were quite solid. There were plenty of locals that I hadn’t seen anywhere else in the Twin Cities, including new beers from Northgate and Bent Brewstillery. Clearly, they put some effort into building their tap list. Service was prompt and prices were cheap. If the location wasn’t so awkward, I’d consider making this place a regular stop. Overall, worth a look.

Love Grumpy’s DT, not as much as NE though. Large bar with a divey feel. Lots of live music here with two stages. Food is good bar food. A really decent tap selection and often some gems. Great stop while downtown. Friendly to gruff service and a nice patio in the back.

Grumpy’s is a fun dive bar that can be really chill or really rowdy, and can offer good surprises - weird rare kegs - and bad surprises - very dirty lines. It is worth dropping in, but the latter is probably more common. This said, the bartender will always replace the beer if it’s bad. He’s not the one making the choice to clean the lines on a random bi-monthly basis.

Grumpy’s is the best place to go before a Vikings game if you like good beer, due to it’s close proximity to the Dome. Beer selection is good to very good, with the "very" due to the fact that they usually have a couple of special or hard to find beers on tap. They have a small patio in back which is nice, but fills up quickly before early-season Vikings games. Food is of the greasy burger variety, and tasty. It’s a bit of a dive so I probably wont go out of my way to go there, especially with Town Hall and Republic just down the street, but for Vikings games and perhaps an area pub crawl, it’s a must stop.

Grumpy’s Downtown is a rock n roll bar with decent bar food and some surprising taps. They have all the usual suspects that one would expect bars in MN could carry from the craft scene. Bells, Surly, Summit ect. However, they have 4 or 5 taps that rotate that usually end up being pleasant surprises. There’s been times I’ve walked in there on some random weekday night to a keg of Founders Black Biscuit or rare Stone barrels. WTF? they usually also have different firkin’s on Fridays, which is cool. Food selection is large and above average for bars.

Decent beer menu, but nothing special. Beers are very expensive. Service was friendly. Not a good ambiance, dirty but not like a good dive bar, but high prices that are not justified by the neglected interior. Not nearly enough beer to be a destination, and Town Hall is just down the street.
