Traditional scotish pub with a good selection of cask ales. Ambiance is very friendly. One of the best place in Edinburgh.

Visited on 7/6/2011. Another Edinburgh pub with an attractive old ceramic and wood interior. It was busy for mid-afternoon on weekday, but the service was efficient and friendly. The beer choice was decent and the quality good.

Visited during Edinburgh pubcrawl with my girlfriend, Craig, Fin, Loz, Arjan. Large bar just outside the train station, just off Princess street, historic interior, there was a beer festival when we visited so plenty of cask ales on, had a very good smoked mackarel & mushroom pie, staff was a bit uninterested. Nice place to have a couple of beers and some food, although a bit pricy.

Traditional Scottish bar with 10 handpumps serving interesting well cared for beers & a selection of unusual bottles Carpeted and busy. Good location. Quite expensive. One of the best in Edinburgh

Beershine  (850) The Sunshine State, Florida | September 24, 2010
One of the most attractive pub interiors in Edinburgh. Compelling to visit and linger. Opulent and gilded decor, roaring 20s come to life. Clientele and staff can be appropriately genteel but itís still a casual place. Around the corner from a similarly characterful place called the Cafe Royal but the Guildford is more spectacular. Excellent location nr. Princes St. Beer selection and quality can be very good. Has a restaurant upstairs, but didnít eat there.

Didnít really like this place. Canít put my finger on why not, but just didnít have the same friendly atmosphere I found in a lot of Edinburgh pubs perhaps. Interesting beers and nice place, but not somewhere I wanted to hang out for more than one beer.

Impressive place with high ceilings and nice decoration although seems to target tourists primarily. The labels and explanations about the guest beers were similar to a fast food place. The food was mediocre. The staff was nice and helpful. They had 4 guest ales at the time.

The best Edinburgh place that Iíve visited during my stay there. Just few meters away from Cafe Royal Circle Bar. At the time I was there -3 p.m. only few people inside. Cozy atmosphere, friendly service. 8 cask beers of which Iíve tried two. Highly recomended.

This was my best experience, beer-wise, in Edinburgh. Lots of fresh casks, which were all rather high quality. Quite difficult to find, unless youíre coming from Princess Street. Very friendly service, despite a rather busy night. We went here more than once.

Decent quiet old pub with some cozy corners to hide in and while away the hours. We visited for 2 quick pints during a beer festival, they had about 10 pumps on with various scottish beers. Not too exepensive, but rather hot... perhaps the heating was on so high because most of the clientelle were of a pensionable age?
